Austin delighted to be back

The striker has been absent since early December, when he was hurt in the Europa League home game against Hapoel Be’er Sheva, but today joined back in with his colleagues at Staplewood Campus.
Although Saturday’s home game with Hull will come too soon for him, Austin is thrilled that he can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
“It was nice,” he said, as he began reflecting on his first session back. "I’ve worked hard with the staff for four months to get back to the position I’m in now. It was nice to be back in with the lads, instead of training on my own.
“It’s been tough. I’ve had to mentally grind. I’ve not had an injury for this long before. It’s mentally tough, but I’m delighted that I see the light at the end of the tunnel now and I’m part of the first-team again.”
While it tends to be lower-body injuries that normally sideline players, it was an upper body one that Austin had to contend with.
“I’ve been able to do all the movements – run for the last two-and-a-half months and do all the lower body exercises,” he said. "It’s just the contact one that was a nightmare.
"I had to go to Vail [in Colorado] two weeks ago to get the all-clear from the surgeon and it’s just been a steady contact grind now and then hopefully I can be back sooner rather than later.
"Like I say, it was nice to be back and to blow the cobwebs off. The goal’s still in the same place, that’s the main thing. I’m delighted and hopefully I can be part of the run-in now.
“That was my goal, to be back for the last few games of the season. Now I’m here and there’s light at the end of the tunnel I’m looking forward and I just want the manager to pick me now and to be involved.”
