He fired high over from a promising position with 19 minutes gone after exchanging passes with Wahbi Khazri and just wide six minutes before the break, having earlier seen his penalty appeals waved away by referee Stuart Attwell when his shot appeared to hit the arm of Simon Francis.
But in the meantime, Jordan Pickford, who made regulation saves from Benik Afobe, Marc Pugh and Adam Smith, enjoyed a rare moment of good fortune when King left him rooted to the spot with a 20th-minute chip from a tight angle only to see the ball hit both the bar and the post before bouncing into the keeper’s arms.
Pugh was unable to trouble Pickford with a header from King’s ball in seconds after the restart but fired just wide of the far post with 50 minutes gone, although Boruc had to palm away Borini’s effort as play switched rapidly to the other end.
Central defender Lamine Kone headed over from Khazri’s 55th-minute cross with the Black Cats pressing once again but as time ran down, any composure began to ebb away.
However, George Honeyman had the home fans off their seats when he latched on to Borini’s 67th-minute pass and tested Boruc at his near post.
The game descended into an ugly melee after Borini brought down Lewis Cook with a clumsy challenge, and the Italian and Harry Arter were both booked for their roles in it once order had been restored.
Boruc needed two attempts to field full-back Donald Love’s skidding low drive four minutes from time, but it was the visitors who snatched victory at the death. Substitute Lys Mousset picked out Ryan Fraser on the right and his cross was steered home by King.

Despite the eventual score line Saints started brightly. New recruit Nathan Tella looked lively from the off and soon slipped Jonathan Afolabi in on goal, though both the goalkeeper and offside flag denied the Irish striker.
On 18 minutes the hosts found their breakthrough. A dangerous cut-back from the right flank found Allan lurking inside the penalty area and he slotted low under Kingsley Latham.
Allan almost had a second minutes later. A deep corner from the right once again found him loitering at the far post, though Latham palmed his initial effort into the air before clutching the ball to safety.
Saints could well have levelled just before the break. Will Smallbone chipped a free-kick towards the near post for Afolabi to chest and volley, but he was unable to prevent his effort at goal flying over the crossbar.
The hosts almost doubled their tally soon after the restart. Ryan Giles went darting to the Saints byline and flashed a ball across goal, though it narrowly eluded two Wolves bodies inside the penalty area.
At the other end Smallbone’s pass found Afoabi who wriggled inside the penalty area to fire a right-footed strike low at goal, but it was well saved by the foot of Rory Brown.
Craig Fleming then moved to make his first change of the afternoon, as Tyreke Jonson made way for Harlem Hale.
Despite Saints’ best efforts, it was the hosts that eventually found the net once more on 80 minutes. Latham did well to deny Allan another from close range, but could do little to prevent substitute Austin Samuels hammering home the rebound to seal all three points for Wolves.

Bruma agent: Southampton, Leicester keen, Tottenham ‘not happening’
Show/hide article…
Galatasaray winger Bruma’s representative has told ESPN FC that the Portuguese remains keen on a move to the Premier League but Tottenham Hotspur are not in the race for his services.
Football agent Ibrahim Polat, part of the Marco Kirdemir Sport Management company that represents Bruma, said Southampton and Leicester City hold an interest but a move to Spurs is “not happening.”
A source had indicated this week that Tottenham and Galatasaray had been in talks and that a deal looked to be close, but the Premier League side told ESPN FC that was not the case and Polat said: “We are not in talks with Tottenham.”
However, he said there is still English interest in the 22-year-old, whose contract is due to expire in 2018.
“Southampton and Leicester City have registered an interest and we have held talks,” Polat said. "Bruma is keen on the Premier League and we will be holding further talks next month.
“Everything will become clearer regarding his future in May.”
Liverpool have also been suggested as a possible destination but a source close to the English club said there have not been any talks and that there are no plans to make a move at this stage.
Bruma had an impressive start to the season, registering seven goals and eight assists prior to Jan Olde Riekerink’s dismissal in February, but has become unsettled since Igor Tudor took the reins.
He has scored just once since under Tudor, who dropped Bruma for his first game in charge. The winger has also missed two further league games due to suspension and injury.
Despite his difficulties since Tudor’s appointment, Bruma has still been directly involved in more goals than any other Galatasaray player in the league this season.
The Turkish giants have sought to prolong his deal but have yet to reach an agreement over an extension for Bruma, who said last year that Jose Mourinho had promised to monitor his work.
Galatasaray have spent this season under a European ban for failing to adhere to UEFA’s financial fair play regulations and may seek to cash in on some of their most valuable players this summer to ensure future compliance.

Southampton 0-0 Hull: Tigers earn crucial point in bid for survival
Show/hide article…
In the end it felt like a victory, even if it wasn’t and even if Marco Silva said it didn’t.
When Eldin Jakupovic leapt to his left in a feat of rare athleticism and palmed away Dusan Tadic’s last-minute penalty with a single hand, the Hull players rushed to embrace their Bosnian-Swiss goalkeeper. None more so than Alfred N’Diaye. They knew what it meant. It was not only a point saved; it was momentum maintained. And for now, Hull’s trajectory is heading in the right direction: just.
For 90 minutes Hull had defended stoutly. They were steadfast and steady: not much more than that. But they know what they are these days and they stuck to their task.
And Southampton were frustrated: not to the point of exasperation, because, frankly, their season is over and neither relegation, nor trophies are in sight. But they had seemingly accepted that Hull deserved a point and appeared to be playing out the game with that conclusion in mind.
So when a cross came in on 90 minutes and N’Diaye made a grab for Maya Yoshida’s shoulder, it was an uncharacteristic false step by Hull. Yoshida seized the opportunity, dropped to the floor and Mike Dean duly award the penalty. And at that moment Hull’s very purpose seemed to have collapsed in on itself. Every tackle made, every yard run, it seemed, would be for naught. All would be taken away from them by a Southampton side who had neither need nor apparent desire of these points.
Yet up stepped Tadic, away leapt Jakupovic and a precious point was secured. ‘It was not like a victory,’ insisted Silva. ‘But it was important,’ he acknowledged. ‘And an important moment of the game. If we had lost after the way we played, we wouldn’t have deserved it and it wouldn’t be good for us. This will give us more confidence. And we changed our away form as well. Fantastic attitude from our players and our tactical awareness was very good and our support as well. It’s important for us and an important point. It’s not easy but our players show big, big courage again today.’
In an afternoon notable only for its capacity underwhelm, that penalty save induced a hive of activity. News was coming through of Bournemouth’s goal and Sunderland’s relegation. With one relegation spot gone, Hull had even more reasons to celebrate.
Then it might have become even more fantastical. In injury time, Hull had a chance to win in at the death. A corner was met by Oumar Niasse’s head and only Cedric on the goal-line saved Southampton. In addition, Niasse’s shirt was clearly being held. Another penalty would have been justified. ‘There were similar situations in the other box and the ref didn’t give to us,’ said Silva. ‘It’s possible that it was a penalty (against us) but then the situations in the other box were as well.’
Still, the final whistle had the smattering of Hull fans raucously celebrating, Silva on the pitch embracing his players and Jakupovic rightly hailed a hero. For when you have accumulated five points away from home all season, a goal-less draw is worth acknowledging. ‘This is challenge we have in our mind to change our away form. Many times we played well but in the end the result is not the result we deserve. Ok, it’s not a win today. But it’s an important point for us.’ If they didn’t make the great leap forward away from Swansea that they might have hoped for, Hull retained command of their destiny with three games to go and few would have predicted that last August.
In truth, though, it was not a game for the annals though. There was a veritable flurry of activity early on when Kamil Grosicki got away down the right on four minutes and pulled a shot across goal just wide on four minutes. Three minutes later, he lined up a free kick from 25 yards and grazed the post.
It looked good. Hull seemed to be in the mood. Lazar Markovic was offering a regular outlet with his direct running. Sam Clucas and Alfred N’Diaye were a redoubtable brick wall in midfield.
Yet organised and resilient may not be enough to retain their Premier League status. In their favour they restricted a decent Southampton side to marginal opportunities, who looked like the proverbial football team that, late April/early May, is sizing up summer holidays with their status secure
There was especially awful about the way Southampton played. They did many things reasonably well; just with less intensity that they might have done had it really mattered. And the overall effect of that was a game in which they never really exploited their advantage in possession and never really got beyond long range shots as a means of breaking the deadlock.
‘There wasn’t enough quality, rhythm and intensity,’ acknowledged Claude Puel. ‘Our play was too poor and too slow. We could have won the game at the end with the penalty but we could have lost it at the end as well. So a draw it normal. It was not enough. A bad day for us.’
Southampton’s most-exciting moment were extremely limited. Perhaps the only moment in the opening half which enticed the St Mary’s crowd off their seats was Steven Davis’ thrusting run which released Dusan Tadic, who in turn fed Cédric down the right. Sadly, after all the cursory excitement, the pullback went astray and Hull cleared. In the second half, Nathan Redmond went reasonably close with a shot over the bar form 25 yards on 58 minutes.
But in reality it was only on 82 minutes, when a scramble corner saw the ball fall to Tadic that a genuine goal-scoring chance presented itself. And then Jakupovic was off his line so smartly to block that even that chance was quickly snuffed out. In the end, the goal-less draw was apposite after a game of limited ambition.

Southampton 0-0 Hull City: 5 things we learned
Show/hide article…
Hull did their survival prospects the power of good with a vital point against sleepy Southampton .
Marco Silva’s men cashed in on the lack of urgency from the ninth-placed Saints who have little to play for.
Their best chance came with seven minutes left when striker Oumar Niasse blasted over the bar from nine yards.
It means the 17th-placed Tigers move three points clear of Swansea, who go to Manchester United tomorrow lunchtime.
Southampton’s best chance came in the 79th minute when Dusan Tadic looked set to stab home from Nathan Redmond’s cross, only to be denied by defender Harry Maguire.
Saints had a late chance to break Tigers’ hearts, but Tadic fluffed his lines as Silva’s men move closer to survival.
If Hull could get half the results on the road that they have pulled off at home they’d not only be safe, they’d be heading for mid-table right now.
Instead the travel sickness of Marco Silva’s side is quite striking. This points will do though. It gives them the upper hand over Swansea who go to Manchester United tomorrow and, barring a shock result, will surely be put to the sword.
Hull, though, have yet to win away from home in seven league games, drawing one and losing six ahead of this match. In fact, before this contest kicked off they had lost five away on the bounce, conceding 15 goals in those matches.
Something is intrinsically wrong about the way that the Tigers become toothless away from the KC Stadium. If Silva can get safe and solve that problem during the summer transfer window, Hull could be quite a decent proposition next season.
He flopped at Liverpool and it has been a while before he has managed to get going but the Serbian winger was a key performer here. He drove forward, he tracked back and he showed the kind of desire that has convinced Hull boss Marco Silva to place his faith in him.
It has not been an easy road for Markovic since his £20million signing by Liverpool three years ago. But he scored in the win over Watford in Hull’s last game and, if they are to stay up, he will be one of the reasons why.
His side were sleepy and lacked the desire we have seen from them in the past but you have to say that it has been a good season for the softly-spoken Southampton boss.
Claude Puel arrived without much fanfare last summer to pick up the pieces after the Saints had been jilted by yet another rising star of management in Ronald Koeman.
Puel has since led Southampton to a League Cup Final - beating Liverpool over two legs in the semi-final without conceding a goal - in which they were the better team before losing to Manchester United. At first glance the Saints’ form since then, three wins and four defeats, appears poor.
Look again, however, at the teams that have beaten them in that sequence: Tottenham, Manchester City and Chelsea. A top-ten finish still looks on for the Saints and it would reflect another solid season in the top flight for them.
His numbers (five in 19) looked a little light for a player costing an initial £14.6million from Napoli in January.
Already, however, Southampton fans have seen where that money has gone. Gabbiadini looks a cracking player with a fantastic eye for goal. Before injury struck in the game against Spurs last month, he’d already wiped out his average record in Italy this season in just four games with six goals.
Ahead of this contest he hadn’t scored in two, against Manchester City and Chelsea. He is still getting back in the groove and - with little to play for - the Saints team overall lacked a bit of bite. But make no mistake, he looks good.
