Every Premier League manager’s bogey team revealed

Show/hide article…

Antonio Conte really has a problem with Arsenal.

The Chelsea manager has faced the Gunners eight times since arriving in English football, but has claimed just one victory over Arsene Wenger’s side.

The most recent match between the two came on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal claimed another victory over the Blues, meaning they have won four of eight clashes against their London rivals.

The Gunners have become something of a bogey team for Conte, but who is the bogey team for every current Premier League manager?

Click the right arrow, above, to find out…

*Bogey teams determind as the opponent against whom the manager in question has won fewest points-per-game. Only calculated using results in league fixtures.

*Carlos Carvalhal (Swansea City) and Javi Gracia (Watford) are not included as neither manager has come up against the same opponent on at least two occasions. Every other manager’s record is calculated using a minimum of two matches against the same opponent.

Southampton chasing Spartak Moscow’s Quincy Promes deal in coming days

Show/hide article…

Mauricio Pellegrino has confirmed Southampton are working on a deal to bring Spartak Moscow winger Quincy Promes to St Mary’s.

Sky Sports reported last week that the Saints were interested in signing the 26-year-old, but Pellegrino says any potential move is still a number of days away meaning that negotiations could roll on right up to Deadline Day on January 31.

According to Sky sources, the player is keen on a move to England, but Spartak are holding out for a fee in the region of £30m.

Pellegrino revealed that the two clubs are yet to agree a price, but when asked if he remained confident of signing the player, he said: "I don’t know. We are waiting for an answer.

“We have got another five or six days to keep working and pushing, but we will see.”

Promes, who is under contract in Moscow until June 2021, has scored 53 goals in 101 Russian Premier League appearance for Spartak, and Southampton have been tracking the player for some time.

“He is an important player,” said Pellegrino. "There are a lot of players that I would like to bring in but he is one of the players that we are looking for.

“We have followed him many times and it is one possibility. We will be pushing until the end but we know that the market is not easy.”

Pellegrino also confirmed that Southampton are close to finalising a deal to sign Guido Carrillo from Monaco, for a fee understood to be £19.1m.

The Saints boss is hoping to have Carrillo in the squad for their Premier League match against Brighton on Wednesday and views the striker as a replacement for the injured Charlie Austin.

Pellegrino confident of signing Monaco’s Guido Carrillo for £19.2m

Show/hide article…

Mauricio Pellegrino is confident Southampton will complete the £19.2million signing of Monaco’s Guido Carrillo.

The Argentinian has identified his compatriot, who he also managed at Estudiantes, as the solution to his team’s struggles in the final third, where a lack of goals has made them candidates for relegation.

Saints are favourites for Carrillo’s signature over Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, and when asked about the 26-year-old, who is expected to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract, Pellegrino said: 'Hopefully we can have good news by tomorrow (Friday).

'We are pushing harder and we are working really hard to try to move forward.

'We are with confidence because everybody has been working really well and the player wants to come and be part of our squad, but the most important part of the negotiations still are there and we have to continue working.

'The main thing (for Carrillo) has been working in Monaco more than two years in the top team, playing Champions League, high level.

'He can replace the profile of Charlie (Austin). A big body, can hold the ball, is good in the air and can be good to help us to be stronger.

'It’s a plus that I knew him when he was really young. He was 19, at the beginning of his career. Hopefully good news for us in the next two days.

‘It’s really difficult to sign players at this level, the top level. In one year’s time maybe we can analyse (if he has been a success), but now it’s difficult (to judge).’

Southampton also hope to sign Dutch winger Quincy Promes from Spartak Moscow for what would be a club-record £30million, and when asked if they had moved closer to doing so, Pellegrino said: 'I don’t know. We are waiting for some answers.

'I don’t think (a fee has been agreed).

'Still we have another five or six days to keep working and pushing and after we will see.

‘He’s an important player but there are a lot of players I would like to bring in. He’s one of the players we were following and it’s one possibility.’

On Saturday they host Watford in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Shane Long and Maya Yoshida will be available but Austin remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Sam McQueen faces a late fitness test, while Ryan Bertrand is suffering from flu.

On the game, Pellegrino said: 'We felt that we are growing in the last three or four games in defence and attack and we have another opportunity to try to move forward. We want to move to the next round.

‘Obviously we will have an opponent with a new manager (Javi Gracia), new motivation, good players. Something unexpected can happen because we don’t have much information about them.’
