Everton’s “big ambition” convinced latest signing to move to Goodison Park

Everton have completed their seventh signing of their record-breaking summer by landing Cuco Martina on a Bosman from Southampton .
The Toffees agreed a deal with Martina some weeks ago with the defender signing a three-year deal.
The Curacao international has highlighted the “big ambition” by the club for his motivation to sign and link up with Ronald Koeman once again.
“Everton is a big club with big ambitions and I’m really looking forward to joining this group of players and the manager as we try to step forward next season,” Martina told evertonfc.com .
“Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do.
“Everton supporters are really passionate about their Club and everyone’s excited about where the Club is aiming. You can see this is a club that wants to achieve something and the players we are bringing certainly show this.
“When you come to a new club, you need to get to know one another so the training camp in Holland will be great for me and for the other new players as well. We will play against Twente, one of my old clubs too, and I’m really looking forward to showing everyone what I can do.”

Virgin Media becomes shirt sleeve sponsor

Southampton Football Club is delighted to announce that Virgin Media has extended its commitment to the club and, from the 2017/18 season, the company’s logo will appear on the sleeves – as well as the front – of the team’s home, away and goalkeeper shirts.
Virgin Media became Saints’ Main Club Sponsor in 2016, and this additional deal serves to strengthen the bond between the two organisations.
Southampton Football Club’s Commercial Director, David Thomas, said: “We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Virgin Media over the past 12 months and we are delighted that they have opted to become our new shirt sleeve sponsors.
“This agreement is testament to the partnership that has been forged by the two organisations, and we look forward to continuing our work together this season."

Everton sign defender Cuco Martina after expiry of Southampton contract

Cuco Martina has been reunited with his old Southampton boss Ronald Koeman after moving to Everton on a free transfer.
The right-back, 27, was out of contract with the Saints after two years on the south coast and has now penned a three-year deal at Goodison Park.
Martina was signed by Southampton when Toffees boss Koeman was in charge and the defender has also played under Everton assistant Erwin Koeman, Ronald’s brother, during his time in Netherlands.
Everton have had a busy summer in the transfer market, bringing in the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramirez and Jordan Pickford, and Martina admits their approach persuaded him to move to Merseyside.
“Everton is a big club with big ambitions and I’m really looking forward to joining this group of players and the manager as we try to step forward next season,” the defender told Everton’s website. "Obviously, I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do.

The Toffees’ regular right-back Seamus Coleman suffered a double-leg break while on international duty in March so will miss the start of this campaign, while Koeman was also keen to acquire more defensive options ahead of their return to the Europa League.
“Cuco Martina is an experienced player who can perform in different positions at the back, which is important,” Koeman added. "It’s also important, with the number of games we will face in the coming campaign, that we have strength and competition in the squad.
“I brought the player to Southampton, so I know what he can do for us here and this is why I’ve now brought him to Everton. He is a player who will strengthen our squad and be able to play in different positions when that’s needed, too.”
Martina made 36 appearances over two seasons with Saints and scored just once, although it was a stunning long-range strike in a 4-0 victory over Arsenal in 2015. He also captains the Curacao national team and just completed playing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Everton’s latest recruit was part of the travelling party bound for Netherlands on Monday as part of their preseason preparations. Under-21 internationals Pickford and Sandro, who missed last week’s friendly in Tanzania having been given extra time off after featuring at Euro 2017, were also on the plane but Ross Barkley was not.
The club have explained a groin injury has again prevented the midfielder from joining Koeman’s squad. Barkley had been given an ultimatum this summer of signing a new contract or being sold but last week his manager claimed his future was no clearer.

The right-back, 27, was out of contract after two seasons at Southampton and is reunited with former Saints boss Ronald Koeman, now in charge at Goodison Park.
Everton have already signed Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane, Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez.
“You can see this is a club that wants to achieve something,” said Martina, who has 30 caps for the Caribbean nation of Curacao.
“Cuco Martina is an experienced player who can perform in different positions at the back, which is important,” Koeman said.
“It’s also important, with the number of games we will face in the coming campaign, that we have strength and competition in the squad.”
Martina recently became captain of his national team.

That’s the opinion of former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, who believes the Reds will feel the consequences of their public pursuit.
Southampton accused Liverpool of tapping up the defender earlier this summer.
“They can pay for it, write a cheque out,” Jordan said on talkSPORT.
"You’ve got big mouths and you want to go about things a certain way and I’m completely sure that if had it done to them they would be screaming from the rafters.

Everton have signed former Southampton defender Cuco Martina on a three-year contract.
The 27-year-old is linking up again with Ronald Koeman after joining on a Bosman free transfer following the expiry of his contract at St Mary’s.
Martina made 36 appearances over two seasons at Southampton. He is also captain of the Caribbean nation of Curacao.
The right-sided defender told Everton’s website: "Everton is a big club with big ambitions and I’m really looking forward to joining this group of players and the manager as we try to step forward next season.
"Obviously I know the manager from my time at Southampton, so I know what he wants and he knows what I can do.

“They will have their pound of flesh and hopefully Liverpool will pay for behaving in a certain way.”
