Transfer ALERT! Hoffenheim star Mark Uth flattered by Tottenham and Southampton links but plays down talk of January move

Show/hide article…

Hoffenheim striker Mark Uth is flattered to be linked with Tottenham and Southampton - but insists their interest is not concrete.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks as he enters the final 18 months of his current contract.

Both Tottenham and Southampton are reportedly monitoring the German and there has been talk they could move for him this month.

However Uth, while admitting he is flattered to be linked with the English duo, has now poured cold water on such rumours by insisting no approach has been made.

“I’ve read it, but there’s not too much to say. There’s no interest,” Uth told Kicker.

“It’s definitely recognition, but I want to focus on football now, and be successful with Hoffenheim.”

Southampton forward Boufal pulls out of Morocco’s AFCON squad

Show/hide article…

Morocco have confirmed Southampton’s Sofiane Boufal will not take part in the Africa Nations Cup because of injury.

The 23-year-old has been released from his country’s training camp ahead of the friendly against Finland in the United Arab Emirates.

A statement on the Morocco Football Association website confirmed Boufal ‘left the gathering place of the team following confirmation of his injury by the medical staff’, although there was no further information about what the injury was or the extent of the problem.

Morocco begin their Africa Nations Cup campaign against DR Congo on January 16, with the tournament in Gabon set to run until February 5.

Boufal joined Southampton from Lille in a club-record £16million transfer during the summer, but saw his debut delayed as he returned to full fitness.

The midfielder has so far made 15 appearances, the most recent in the 3-0 Premier League defeat at Everton on January 2, and has scored twice.

Latest live updates from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool press conference

Show/hide article…

Philippe Coutinho will make his much anticipated return at Southampton in the semi final of the EFL Cup.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp delivered the news every Reds fan has been longing to hear, when he revealed the brilliant midfielder has completed a week of training, and is fit enough to go into the squad for Wednesday’s game.

Coutinho has been out since damaging an ankle during the Premier League clash with Sunderland on November 26, with fears the injury could rule him out for months.

But he returned to light training over the Christmas period, and will have completed four sessions with the first team squad before the visit to St Mary’s, with his manager explaining:

“Phil trained again this morning, so there are steps. He is fit enough to be part of the squad, it means he could get minutes, but it depends on the game of course.

“He’s in a very good way. Six or seven weeks out is a long time, so he needs minutes in training especially and minutes in games as well. Wednesday, we will play the best line up we can, our mind is not made up.

“This is the third complete session he did with the team, tomorrow will be the fourth it is not many, but it is enough I think to be part of the squad.”

It is great news for the Reds, with star forward Sadio Mane away on Africa Cup of Nations duty for the next month, and there was further good news when Daniel Sturridge came through a 20 minute work-out against Plymouth with no problems.

He had picked up an injury during the 2-2 draw at Sunderland and didn’t train all last week, but Klopp confirmed there are no fresh problems, which means is likely to start in the first leg of the semi final.

Klopp is determined to get back to Wembley after losing in the final of the same competition last season in the cruellest way, when they were defeated by Manchester City on penalties.

And even though the Reds are massive favourites to make a glamour final with Manchester United, the manager insisted the pressure won’t get to them.

“There is no more pressure on us. It is an opportunity. It is always a new day,” he said.
