🗓 On this date in history

Is that a bottle of champagne to celebrate what must have been one of the dullest sporting moments of the year?

One of the best games I’ve ever been to. Ran out 3-2 winners in the end.

I was there - seems a million years ago!

5: David Cameron is new Tory leader
David Cameron has been elected as the new Conservative leader by a margin of more than two to one over David Davis.
The 39-year-old beat Mr Davis by 134,446 votes to 64,398 in a postal ballot of Tory members across the UK.

The Old Etonian, an MP for only four years, said the Tories must change and be in tune with today’s Britain with a “modern compassionate Conservatism”.

His defeated rival, Mr Davis, said the leadership contest had been a preamble to a Conservative election victory.

He hailed Mr Cameron as the next Tory prime minister and said the race had made the party look thoughtful and mature.

1941: Japanese planes bomb Pearl Harbor.

Japan has launched a surprise attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii and has declared war on Britain and the United States.
The US president, Franklin D Roosevelt, has mobilised all his forces and is poised to declare war on Japan.

Details of the attack in Hawaii are scarce but initial reports say Japanese bombers and torpedo-carrying planes targeted warships, aircraft and military installations in Pearl Harbor, on Oahu, the third largest and chief island of Hawaii.

You just beat me to it…

The Theory of Relativity is 100 years old today, when internet is working again I’ll find some suitable words about it.

I’m going back a bit in the thread, but that was my first ever Saints game! 14 years ago…

Gotcha bro:

I know Dani was an utter prat, no doubt, but that was definitely our goal of the season that year.

Not like throwing all the awards at Lallana was much use anyway.

# OnThisDay in 2007, @ TheRealBWP got one and Stern John hit three as @ SouthamptonFC beat @ HullCity 4-0 at St Mary’s.

Video here

I didn’t recall him having much of an impact during his time with us, but Adam Hamill provided 3 great assists there - the first for BWP was an excellent cross. If he’d done that every week his career would be a bit different today!

# OnThisDay in 2012, @ jason_punch42’s goal saw off @ ReadingFC and helped # SaintsFC out of the # BPL’s bottom three.

And in 1981, 3 days after the Man Utd game shown above, we contrived to lose 2-0 at home to Brighton. A win would have put us top of the league for the 1st time in our history.

That would have to wait for a few weeks.
