Too much Red Dawn in your political digestive system.
Is that a breakfast drink?
Like Sunny Delight but with more strawberries, and additional communism…
Wasn’t it Susan Boyle’s album launch that had the world’s worst hashtag
#Susanalbumparty wasn’t it??
The decision is to be made at 2pm.
Steve Topple reckons Corbyn is set to win by an NEC majority of three.
And Corbyn really is something else:-
Still rumbles on! There is no argument, I have read the rules, had others read the rules with me, JC has to be on the ballot paper and in turn will walk the majority of members votes.
You can see why the PLP are trying to keep him off the paper, as he will not be voted on. The other way of course that they are missing are if more candidates join the race, then JC could be voted off before the vote goes to them members? I think I am right in saying this?
It seems clear that this is a challenge and the rules state that the challengers need the nominations.
He is not challenging himself, so he doesn’t need them.
And in a democracy it would seem sensible for the guy being challenged to be on the ballot, however little support he seems to have amongst MPs.
This is interesting.
New media being cited as political pressure.
Excellent.
EvolvePolitics understands that if the National Executive Committee (NEC) decides in favour of Jeremy Corbyn being on the ballot, Angela Eagle will consider stepping down as a challenger.
A Labour source cited the unprecedented backlash against Ms Eagle’s campaign on social media from those loyal to Jeremy Corbyn, and the Labour MP for Wallasey is said to be already considering the potential fallout from what would ‘almost certainly be a landslide’ loss.
Yup it seems pretty clear that the incumbent is on the ballot regardless, the only circumstance where they wouldn’t be is if they’d agreed to resign their position, sparking the leadership challenge. It’s bizarre that this is even going on because the party members will clearly vote for Corbyn in a landslide - I guess the #chickencoup is praying that he’s not on the ballot so they have a chance.
Heh. I never caught the film when it was out in the 1980s, but it was a huge favourite of my then gun-totin’ and Republican boss. I have a new boss now. The old one is still gun-totin’ and Republican - just works elsewhere.
I watched it five years ago just to get some of his cultural references.
It is fucking ridiculous.
Incidentally, this is the other film that stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, most famous for their later coupling in Dirty Dancing.
Nobody puts baby in a corner.
She’s shot to death by helicopter gunship. She quite literally had the time of her life.
Exactly. What Eagle and co are saying is that she is a challenger but the person they are challenging shouldnt be allowed to accept the challenge. How the fuck does that work? She wouldn’t be a challenger would she? She would be an unopposed shoo in. It is beyond ridiculous, it wouldn’t look out of place as a Monty Python sketch! As for her much vaunted press conference yesterday, well, John Cleese and co would have rejected that out of hand as well. All that pink coordinated stuff, her outfit, the backdrop, banner etc, it had Mandelsons hands all over it. And her abysmal attempts at putting her case across, which boiled down to her saying she didn’t want to talk about policies, just repeating the Portland communications mantra, ‘Jeremy is unelectable, i can heal the Labour Party’, etc etc. It gave a whole new meaning to the expression, ‘Fucking Shambles’. Now this morning on the Today programme she is saying, 'The Tories now have a woman as leader and PM, it’s time for Labour to have one too. Thats it, her platform? ‘I have a vagina so vote for me’? These New Labourites are clearly deluded, Mandelson, Blair, Campbell and co have had their day, they are all totally discredited in the eyes of the country after Chilcott, yesterday’s men. But their vanity and self importance just won’t let them accept it, Jeremy Corbyn and the overwhelming support he has in the Labour Party have to stand firm, the death of the New Labour project must happen now. And good riddance.
This is an explosive letter from Corbyn’s legal team.
Appears as if a significant part of the party machinery are making moves against him, including, it appears, the general secretary.
When lawyers are reminding him that he has an obligation to act in good faith, it doesn’t look good. It appears as if certain elements are determined to keep him off the ballot.
Can they do it? Do they have the balls? We’ll know this afternoon.
i liked the bit where they leaked a letter to the press complaining bout people leaking to the press
Serious question - is this the end of the Labour party as we know it?
I think it’s fairer to say that a political wing that once held power is in its dying days, and is not going down easily.
It’s a correction, more than anything else. Left wing voices and MPs were suppressed or deselected during Blair’s time, while right wing voices were promoted and parachuted. That’s never really been what the Labour Party is about. Much of the left fucked off over Iraq. Those people are back, the original orthodoxy is being rejected and it is going to be an interesting time.
It’s basically a battle between the Labour Party establishment and the wider party.
It a Revolution!
Get your tee-shirts - ha ha
The fix is in. NEC having a secret ballot to decide if Corbyn will be on the ballot. Cowardly and disgraceful. It looks pretty certain that the vote will go against Corbyn, there will rightly be an outcry if this happens surely. The forces against Corbyn have been desperately stepping up their treacherous tactics in the past 24 hours. So a brick was thrownn through a window in Angela Eagle’s constituency office window in the middle of the night. Cue Eagle and co all over the media first thing this morning screaming,‘This shows that Jeremy has lost control of his supporters’. Yeah right!
If she had said: “I am a vagina, vote for me,” I would be tempted.
Perhaps it would have been more appropriate if Farage had said “I am a cock, vote for me?”
