Challenge formally launched

Not the best of launches, I hear.

Most of the hacks did the offs to cover Leadsom’s departure from the Tory race.

Love this :-

Angela Eagle seems quite impressive (well, compared to Jeremy that is). Fingers crossed the youngsters keep on voting for Corbyn…

We clearly have different ideas about what impressive means. Can you actually point to a more disastrous launch of any leadership candidate?

She has already been censured by her CLP. She faces a no confidence vote during the week and possible deselection by her own party.

The ballots for the NEC are going out this week, who according to George Eaton, are set to confirm that Corbyn will automatically be on the ballot paper. He’s got a slim majority there already. By the time the membership have finished picking Corbyn’s NEC slate, it won’t matter even if she wins. Which CLP would select her without an NEC to strongarm the decision in?

The fallacy that they’re trying to promote is that these new Labour members aren’t really Labour, and therefore they, as long term representatives of the party, have greater credibility. Examine their record and it’s diabolical. They lost Scotland and blamed Corbyn for it. They’re simultaneously claiming legitimacy while trying to undermine democracy. While Corbyn was out campaigning for Remain, they were engaged in their little plot.

The sheer time it took, the endless days of begging and bullying, to no avail whatsoever, should tell you all you need to know about how impressive this effort has been. The only impressive thing about it has been the utterly self-defeating way they’ve gone about things.

Eagle’s press conference is pure Thick of It farce. I’m impressed with that when Ianucci writes it. I’m alarmed when I see senior Labour party members engaging in needless self-indulgence at a time when we need robust opposition.

Owen Smith to throw his hat into the ring, according to Politics Home. He’s obviously not that impressed.

I will continue to donate an increased amount of cash monthly to the Labour Party, if JC continues as leader. I will go back to basic amount if he is removed. I know this to be the case among quite a few members.

Don’t think he’s getting removed. If he’s on the ballot paper, he should win.

Owen Smith now in the race. Has the advantage of not voting for Iraq or Syria.

Somewhat tarred by being a Government Special Advisor during Iraq. Was also lobbyist for big pharma.

Christ, how lucky are you lot / the Labour party that Parliament passed a fixed term law.

May could have called a snap Election & Labour would have been vaporized.

Hahahahaha, I was joking.

I have to say, it sounded so amateur it would be funny, if it weren’t that she is the best the opposition can come up with :lou_sad:

A general election is on the cards. If Theresa May had any sense she would call one now, as Labour are a shambles as an opposition party.

She’s not calling a general election. I think one of the two way she’s she can trigger it is a vote of no confidence in her own government. She’s unlikely to do that.

As someone that wants a Labour government, it wouldn’t be good for it to happen right now. The Party needs a sort out. Even the most ardent Bitterite wouldn’t risk it at the moment. Long and short of it is that she’d need a 2/3 majority. I don’t think she wants that and I don’t think she’ll get it.

Moved to the left of Cameron though.

Watching Labour rip itself limb from limb is like watching a car crash. This is a party that should be feasting on the Tories remains, but due to the ‘grass roots’ electing someone so unelectable they’re completely unable to take advantage. For shame.

Is watching car crashes something you do regularly?

Are you the sort of man to cause a crash when people are driving safely because you enjoy the carnage and misery?

I’m looking for a frame of reference here.

Not at all. As I have consistently said the Conservative party need a strong opposition to keep them in check. There most certainly isn’t one at the moment.

such lies cherts, ur like me, you just want Eagles in to make the next General Election a sexy girl-on-girl mudfight. I’m semi-hard just thinking bout it.

If that arouses you then you must have been just as excited about Cameron on Corbyn action.

They need to put something in your tea.

Back on topic, there still seems to be some confusion over Corbyn’s ballot status, despite the rules being fairly unambiguous.
