You should read the report and the leaked report for full context. Corbyn and Jennie Formby, the General Secretary, improved the complaints procedure once they won control of the party from the right, who had been undermining Corbyn’s leadership ever since he was elected.
The EHRC found two cases of direct discrimination. They found more cases of indirect discrimination, where the leader of the opposition’s office interfered in cases. In most instances, this interference was to speed up the process or ask for less lenient measures to be taken. The two direct cases occured during the transition between the outgoing General Secretary, Ian McNicholl and Formby, during which the leader of the opposition specifically asked not to be copied into GLU business by the outgoing team. Tonight it appears that the acting general Secretary didn’t have the authority to suspend Corbyn, other members of the NEC are kicking up about it. So i think it’s safe to say that he did as he was told. But that’s all by the by, this whole saga has never really been about anti-semitism, even Corbyn’s enemies know he is not an anti-semite, his undisputed record over 40 odd years in fighting all forms of racism shows that.
This is just ‘Get Corbyn’ Mk6 after the previous five methods of attack failed miserably. We had the Chicken Coups, Corbyn is a Czech Spy, Corbyn the IRA supporter, Corbyn the communist, and the rest of the ridiculous slurs. From the moment he was elected it was quite clear that The Establishment, the accepted order, aided and abetted by the old order in the Labour Party, had major issues with him and did all they could to undermine him and his leadership. Peter Mandelson even boasted about it publicly. The issue from the start was of course that Corbyn was prepared to openly criticise Israel’s illegal land grab and continued barbaric treatment of the Palestinians. The Israeli government and their ‘friends’ in the UK parliament spent large amounts of money on Mk 6, as evidenced on the AL Jazeera expose, ‘The Lobby’, where officials from the Israeli embassy in London were caught bang to rights offering a seven figure sum to these ‘friends’, for them to use to undermine prominent Palestinian supporters in Parliament, including Alan Duncan, a Tory. This, and a daily barrage of smears in the overwhelming majority of the media which went on for the best part of four years did the trick.
For context on this, a search on the media monitoring service Meltwater reveals the following number of hits.
2015:
Labour anti-semitism: 1.
Tory/Conservative anti-semitism: 0.
2016:
Labour anti-semitism: 2,520.
Tory/Conserative anti-semitism: 0.
2017:
Labour anti-semitism: 93.
Conservative anti-semitism: 0.
2018:
Labour anti-semitism: 6790.
Conservative anti-semitism:0
2019:
Labour anti-semitism: 3820"
Conservative anti-semitism:1.
Totals: Labour anti-semitism = 13,224. Conservative anti-semitism = 1.
Hands up whoever thinks that anti-semitism is 13,000 times more prevalent in the Labour Party than in the Tories?
A report commissioned by the former General Secretary, Jennie Formby, noted that more than half of all anti-semitism complaints, and more than a third of all anti-semitism cases in 2019 were submitted by a single individual. Yet despite this hunt for material, there were only 1,202 anti-semitism related complaints adjudged to warrant action over the two year period 2018-2019. This corresponds to less than a quarter of one percent of the Party’s membership. So the story that under Jeremy Corbyn the labour Party was “rife with anti-semitism” only holds up if you think that 0.25% of the membership saying anti-semitic things = rife.
“One must admire the incredible skills the media have in manipulating the population. They’ve managed to convince many that one of the most passionate anti-racist campaigners of the last 40 years, Jeremy Corbyn, is actually pro-racist and anti-semitic”.----- Noam Chomsky.
