Whilst I hold no particular brief for Starmer, I’m puzzled as to why some appear to be seeking to blame him for the lack of investigation into Jimmy Savile. Surely the role of the CPS, of which he was the head, is to decide on whether or not to prosecute a case, based on the information provided to them by the police. Did the police pass information on Savile to the CPS? My understanding was that no investigation into Savile was carried out at all, in which case the CPS would have had no say in the matter. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong here, needless to say.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that. But the article you’ve linked makes it quite clear that there is no reason to attempt to blame Starmer for the failure to prosecute Savile at that time.
There was also no reason to delegate such a high profile case to an underling.
Everyone in the establishment knew what Savile was. He dodged it for political expediency. You can’t blame him but neither can you excuse him.
That’s what “where the buck stops” means.
You are right that he was ultimately responsible for all CPS actions, but he would not have delegated the case. It would have been handled by the local Chief Crown Prosecutor who would have delegated it to one of their lawyers for action. Being a high profile case the CCP would have closely overseen the case but as DPP does not get involved in day to day prosecutions. That is what the area CCPs are there for.
I should have added that if the reviewing lawyer and his CCP were of the opinion that the current evidence was substantial enough to go forward, there is little the DPP can do. If he overturns their decision and the case falls apart in court, the DPP is in the shit.
Disgraceful, but he’s better off out. Who’d want to be in the midst of those horrible cunts?

Corbyn found out that he’d been suspended from a journalist who doorstepped him in his constituency, Starmer didn’t have the balls or decency to do it himself. It was always going to happen though, Starmer, (and those who are pulling his strings) see this as his Derek Hatton moment. But these are different times and Corbyn is no Derek Hatton.

Can’t believe Channel 4 went to Ruth Smeeth for an opinion, one of the most virulent smearers during the whole debacle. This is Keir’s idea of putting clear blue water under a confected crisis to get Corbyn out.
Everyone asked for someone decent who wasn’t your usual, no straight answers politician in charge, just like one of those honest backbenchers. Well, this is what happens when you get one. Our establishment is a disgrace. We’re back to neoliberals on all sides with different coloured ties, one set of which has already spent far more than Corbyn planned to, badly, on a crisis it should have started planning for in 2016.

Wasn’t the decision to suspend made independently of Starmer? And I think Starmer has said he will not be involved in the process.

The Labour leaks reveals quite the opposite; that many on the right of the party were sitting on cases instead of resolving them, creating the impression that Corbyn wasn’t doing anything about it.
You only have to look at the treatment of Ken Livingstone, perma-suspended, but not actually banned, wheeled out every year as an example of what a giant antisemite he his. His crime, btw, was stating a fact.
