I am sure the daily fail never helps to bring those sort of views into the mainstream.
But actually, there is an ever increasing trickle of stories about the “changes” happening in Eastern Europe.
The rebellion against the Social Democratic Super State that Juncker et al tried to build is the core of the story but even the Guardian ran a decent essay on the changes in Poland today.
The “Right” wing in Europe has such historical links that it is SO much more dangerous than Jezza having the wrong lunch.
Poland giving shit to Israel about the Holocaust Law (subsequently “delayed”) was one easily visible example
The Fail just put it in simplistic terms
There is a very selective attitude to the treatment of such issues, I find. I’ve made these points before, but I’ll make them here again. When all those far right types in the US congregated for their rally, you had actual neo-Nazis screaming actual anti-semitic slogans. It took Bibi three days to complain about it, and to be perfectly frank, we’ve had far more noise over people being members of Facebook groups in which other members have posted shit, somehow collectively guilty for the sins of some racist twat in his bedroom.
The other point I’d make is that we are, by far, the oldest democratic country in Europe. Democratic traditions in many of these countries are newer and less ingrained or have been invaded by other countries with less wholesome ideals on topics democracy.
Some of the countries making up the Union have only been countries for a comparatively little time. The states carved out of the Austrian-Hungarian empire and the collapse of the Soviet Union are perhaps the most striking examples, but it’s easy to forget that in 1800, neither Italy nor Germany existed as nation states.
Before then, most of Europe was largely under autocratic rule under one Empire or another. Our democracy is far from perfect, but we do have a history of it and it forms a huge part of rule by consent. I get the feeling that with a lot of newer European nations, it’s a case of toddlers with shotguns.
Making a £500m fortune would suggest he is more than just a decent business man or at least it does from the rum soaked abyss I currently find myself in.
I gave him credit for early successes, and he deserves them. He identified the Ratners gap in an electronics market which was demanding cheap stereos and suchlike. I also think that he deserves tremendous credit for getting the Amstrad CPC range developed. Even then though, you could see the nickel and diming that came to its fruition in his final big product. You could buy a green screen or a more expensive colour screen. Unlike most of its contemporaries, you couldn’t just plug it into a TV, proprietary joystick ports that mandated you buy shitty Amstrad joysticks (most Amstrad owners bought third party adapters to get decent quality sticks).
From Wiki.
The ‘pay as you use’ business model that the E-mailer was based on was controversial, and favoured Amstrad heavily. Internet and email access were made via a premium-line phone number, so frequent automatic checking of email was expensive. Sending SMS texts and downloading ringtones or games were also charged for, similar to cellphone operator schemes. This received criticism, and was unpopular. The phone also included advertising on its screen.[1]The unpopularity of the phone led to losses at Amstrad’s Amserve company
I can remember the days when you could walk into any electronics shop in the country and walk out with Amstrad gear. These days, the only thing Amstrad makes is Sky satellite boxes.
Sugar presided over that. He’s no Gates, no Jobs, has created no lasting legacy. He wanted to corner markets but never had the product development knowledge, or indeed marketing knowledge to do so.
If he’s got 500m, fair play to him, but he’s going to end up most famous for parroting two words made famous by Donald Trump.
Grab Pussy? When did Sugar ever say that.
Jezza is totally screwed now.
He doesn’t like the Queen.
He’s clearly anti-Semitic so that obviously makes him pro-Islam.
So now he’s got a double dilemna…
The Queen is related to The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)…
Insert as many irony smiley winky being silly things as you feel the need for
Surely, SURELY, after all the shit that has been said about this, he had to do something big to weed it out.
Seems he disagrees (possibly because he hates Jew’s).
If you possibly think that, you’re an idiot that hasn’t checked his voting record. He has repeatedly voted for motions and acts that recognise and respect those that identify under that banner, from commemorations to policy to internal discipline procedures.
I think the issue that the Board of Deputies and the other critical Jewish groups have with him is the definition of antisemitism. They think it means any criticism of a political lobby and its project as implemented.
Most sensible people do not. They think it means hatred of Jews for being Jewish. Run through the more high profile cases and ask yourself, seriously, whether that accusation holds for any of them.
I’ve made this point in your absence, so apologies for the repetition to everybody else. The present Israeli regime gets very upset when people say its not a real country. Paradoxically, it gets even more upset when people judge it as they would any other country.
There is nothing that Jeremy Corbyn can do about this problem as leader of the opposition. There is plenty he could do as Prime Minister to advance a peace process, which is the last thing the hardliners want.
Unfortunately, it is the hardliners that are in charge at the moment.
I said ‘possibly’…
Weak effort Cherts. What big thing should he do to weed out the blatant agenda of our supposed free press, that claim to be the upholders of democracy?
Do people still read the BBC news(apart from you and Barry)? It’s a load of bollocks.
I’ve got no idea, but I would have asked those Jewish council’s that have criticised me to get ideas. Then they wouldn’t be able to say I haven’t gone far enough.
These are the same ones that demanded that longstanding official Jewish groups be omitted, because they disagree with the obvious amplification of a minor issue.
Let’s instead talk about Palestinian children getting their heads blown apart by well aimed sniper fire.
Then they wouldn’t be able to say I haven’t gone far enough.
Not true, unless you were prepared to do anything they said.
You’re asking him to become their hostage.
Well, they certainly rushed to the media. The problem, as I see it, is not about whether or not there are anti-semites in the Labour Party - there almost certainly are, as there are in every walk of life; it’s an age-old problem. The problem is, instead, that Corbyn can’t control the message and agenda. It’s no good bleating about biased media, it is what he’s got and he’s got to deal with it.
Just as we move onto something else, this pops up as an issue again. Perhaps it is a conspiracy (I doubt it) but that doesn’t matter to Joe Schmo in his car listening to the news on Radio 2 in the morning - they just hear ‘ the news’ and today, political news was dominated by Corbyn shrugging his shoulders when asked to rid the Labour Party of anti-semitism.
I think you are right. It feels like that whilst he is good at talking, there seems to be a hesitation about doing (perceived rightly or wrongly). I wonder if that boils down to a decision making issue. Whilst it would be lovely if we could arrive at a consensus by talking every time, sometimes a leader just has to put their foot down, make a decision and implement it.
I looked up on the old google for information on what ‘officially’ constitutes anti-semitism and I’m now more in the dark than I was before.
My point is that is isn’t about anti-semitism*, it’s about Corbyn and his ability to control the message. If it wasn’t anti-semitism, it would be something else. And what Joe Public hears is a steady drip, drip, drip about problems in the Labour Party which, to most people, probably sounds esoteric and just odd. They hear about factions and bickering and internecine arguments and it all gives a general impression of the state of the Party.
* I realise this probably sounds a bit like Mark Kermode saying Jaws isn’t about a shark
I bet Corbyn thinks this too, the fucking anti-selachimorphatist.
