:labour: New Old Labour in trouble

Not really mate. It’s a dodgy website link to pretty much nothing happening. Except for “Momentum” Sorry thats an apprentice team name

From the article.

Dispatches have had an undercover journalist infiltrate Momentum for several months over the summer. The programme is coming out on Monday and is expected to be trailed heavily in the Sunday papers. Some top Corbynistas will be spending the next 24 hours sweating about what they’ve said on camera…

Panorama is also doing one on Monday with the same theme. Brighton and momentum(why not progress((ever)) mentioned. Probably followed by lots of accusations of bullying/deselection/infiltration. All timed very nicely.

Paul Mason’s views on BBC bias

Interesting stuff. There was talk of putting Mason up as a candidate in Leigh. I expect that’s why he says he’s not interested in politics.

Reminds me of a joke from an obscure spoof regional news show, Focus North.

I’ve tried to get out. The ring road doesn’t have any exits

When Andy Burnham, present MP for Leigh, wins the Manchester Metro Mayor Election, they plan to smuggle him to Daisy Hill train station through the old mines. Steve Rotheram is going to run interference on the train platform, bunging a rugby ball or a pie at anyone trying to prevent Burnham’s flight*.

*I realise that this post hasn’t added much to the political discourse**
** it’s still more accurate than 90% of the political stuff on TSW :lou_sunglasses:

Well, the Dispatches programme has just finished. Slightly murky goings on but nothing that extreme in my opinion. Still, it will do some damage and just sows further seeds of doubt about Labour as a whole.

Same production company has done hatchet jobs on Corbyn for both BBC and Channel 4 now.

The murky goings on of the PLP are far worse.

Funny how these programme makers don’t delve as deeply into the Tories with their dubious election expenses and bullying

My thoughts exactly.

I’m not sure what the deadline is, but the next few days are going to be interesting. It’s fairly clear that the Establishment have decided to go nuclear on Corbyn and Momentum on the run-up to the last days of polling. The result should be announced at conference this weekend, but even if Corbyn wins, there are questions about the high number of Corbyn-friendly delegates that have been suspended.

The media has behaved disgracefully and counter-productively throughout the past year with respect to its coverage of Corbyn. The interesting thing is that according to the general public, half perceive a bias toward Corbyn.

Goaters was telling me an interesting story about a Tory mate of his over some beers on Sunday. No fan of Corbyn, he has nevertheless given up mainstream news reporting because the coverage has been that hostile, that obvious that it just pissed him off too much. And that’s a Tory.

Nick Robinson, perhaps an odd source of support, deserves a bit of credit for highlighting the fact that Corbyn is attracting former _Thatcherites _to his rallies. His report can be heard on yesterday’s Today program on iPlayer.

More councillors purged.

Momentum Bristol@MomentumBristol

Disturbing news: two more Bristol councillors have been purged, and we’ve lost our majority. buff.ly/2cD1wW7

Is Momentum becoming counterproductive? it has acheived the desired effect of getting a left winger into the top seat, however it does attract a degree of criticism (rightly or wrongly). It looks like it is becoming a handy target for all of the anti Jezza camp to aim their gunfire at.

If it took a lower profile would Jezza be better served, at least in the short term.

Owen Jones doesn’t think so. He’s off the fence on this, at least.

Was that it? Last night’s Dispatches on Channel 4 was trailed as a damning exposé of Momentum, the pro-Labour grassroots movement widely demonised by the media as a sinister rabble of Trotskyist infiltrators. Instead, viewers were treated to a baffling boreathon, a programme that veered more towards pernickety than scandalous. Rather than being led by revolutionary disciples of Leon Trotsky, most of Momentum’s leaders aren’t really ideologues of any sort: two are former primary school teachers with a passion for social justice.

The link with progress is there, if Dispatches or Panorama where able to read.

Even Zac Goldsmith is taking the piss out of Dispatches.

Also one about the potential early election. May’s going for May supposedly. Would be the smartest thing she could do.

What do people think about this Momentum Kids group that has been set up to engage children in politics? A good way to engage kids? Too much too soon - let them be kids and let them discover politics on their own, or a brainwashing exercise?

From the little i have read it’s none of those things. A creche so mothers can be politically involved it would seem. Is this just another thing blown out of all proportions by the media? Suzanne Moore has no love for Momentum or Corbyn and would normally be happy mocking any of their suggestions.

I think this is one part of it - the article below seems to indicate a degree of education for kids.

Most of the quoted people in the article seem completely reasonable concerning the aim of setting it up. The problem arises from the conjecture that is deliberately placed with the intention of making the reader view it in a particular way. See below.

It is expected the new grouping will help children who want to become activists to attend marches, learn how to use offline and online campaign techniques and discuss key policy issues.

Expected by who exactly?

Looking forward to Mr Corbyn continuing his leadership of the Labour Party, which will be announced today! Exciting times.

Momentum!
