Well, maybe. But plenty of teams attempt to park the proverbial bus at Camp Nou - how many of them come away with even one point, let alone three?
I did say
So TCK has called dibs on the man’s hand on the right, DP has shotgunned the man’s hand on the left, I’ll take the two in the middle please
Leaves 2nd left. Thanks.
Terrible if we lose out to Palace! Will be interesting to see how well he does though!
“…but any appointment will hinge on a committment to return us to a high pressing 4-2-3-1 as our base identity.”
Well we all know I will be happy then @steveintheforest !
Everything that i’ve read of Pellegrino talks about his flexibility with formations, especially ones that deploy 3 CB’s. I would love to see us play with 3 at the back next season, with Bertrand and Cedric flying down the wings. Think a variation on these could work really well next year, especially with Gabbi & Austin up top together.
Can’t get excited about the current clear favourite. Do not think it will be the right choice for the club.
Barca make you park the bus and then take all your means of forward movement.
Meh, give him a chance I guess.
I must say though. I’d have been far less keen on Puel leaving if I had known that that Pellegrino, rather than Tuchel, was the replacement. He seems no bigger gamble than giving Puel a second season (unless of course there was actually a fair bit of truth to the rumours he’d completely lost the dressing room and respect of the players).
Also (and maybe I’m reading into things a bit much here), the number of random ex-players popping up on oddschecker (the likes of Bergkamp, Stam, Vieira, Giggs, Hasselbaink etc.) rather than well-established managers rather implies that we’ve just hastily grabbed the nearest available manager that we can, rather than drawn up a shortlist that we’ve seriously thought about. Psh, could be wrong. Maybe we’ve had our eye on Pellegrino for a while. We’ll see how he does.
I don’t think that you need to worry about many of the names on oddschecker.
Come on, you know how our scouting system works - it’s the same for managers too. We would’ve been keeping tabs on multiple managers throughout the season, and i’m sure as doubts started creeping into the higher-ups minds about Puel they would’ve been sounding out potential candidates.
Pellegrino isn’t a big name and he doesn’t have a hugely proven track record, but I like what i’ve read about him. I think Saints fans have taken enough from previous managerial appointments to give a new manager a certain amount of trust, even if he doesn’t come with a reputation attached, so I think we’ll be fine.
Just have to wait and see what the end result looks like on the pitch! Will be pleased if him and his team are in the building before pre-season starts and we manage to get a couple of players through the door within the next few weeks too. Quite excited actually, more so than when Puel was hired considering the unlikeliness of beating Koeman’s last season in charge.
Mikey, how do you copy/paste the line up image with Lineup builder? Do you have to link it and host it somewhere?
I think there was substance to him losing the dressing room. It isn’t hard to imagine, given his dour demeanour and relatively poor grasp of the language.
I’m choosing to look at this as maybe another Pochettino:
-
I’ve never heard of him
-
did well at a bootleg club in Spain with no money
-
most importantly- same initials
At least he did WELL at his previous place, Pochettino got sacked at Espanyol I recall.
As ever though, I will form an immediate opinion based on his first interview. First impressions and all that. Puel failed my first impression test - you lot may recall I ‘joked’ about the fact his top button was undone for his official handshake photo with Les! A silly thing obviously but it does contribute to how you initially perceive somebody. Then he spoke of course…
Its not like me to be optimistic (about anything) but I’m going to give it a go on this occasion.
Didnt Jack Schitt say it wasn’t so much that he lost the dressing room but more than he didn’t have it in the first place? Not fussed about Tommy Tuchel. If true he is holding out for CL football he isn’t for us. If what Jack says is true and we are looking to tie this down to a longer contract, I just hope that the fan base give him time. Some have clearly made up their minds about him before a ball has been kicked. Others will give him one game I suspect. If you don’t hit the ground running these days you are deemed a failure.
Damn, I keep getting excityed when my twitter feed tells me I have new tweets.
No manager announcement yet though…
These “coming hours”, when are they actually coming?
