Now looking at those embryonic lists it seems to me that one list describes a country which is great if you are consumeristic prick and the other describes a country which is great if you are a human being.

We mock patriotism in this Country, we openly celebrate other nations heritage and culture in the name of piss ups, diversity, multiculturalism and appearance and yet we don’t celebrate our own or scorn and laugh at people that do.
the British (English solely in this instance), we’re are an incredibly insecure, unsure and strange race of peoples that is for sure.

I think the problem you refer to Barry is just a tiny minority.
I’ve only seen a handful of English people openly celebrating other nations’ heritage while abusing their own.
They were marching through our town centres doing Nazi salutes and shouting racist abuse at British people.
Be honest if you have an English flag draped over your porch your seen as common or extremely wealthy, the liberals laugh and scorn at it, as soon as Bolivia marks remembrance to the 1879 massacre of falafel over lentil to create the revolution out comes the sandals and hemp flags and off they celebrate, anyone but their own.

I’m neither common nor extremely wealthy but I have an English flag draped over my porch. I find it useful for keeping the blacks away.

Whoa Barry, don’t tar us all with your brush. Just because you don’t enjoy a Morris dance, a jig around the maypole, shin-kicking, cheese-rolling, ale-drinking, conkers, etc. doesn’t mean others don’t. I enjoy a good country dance and love a coracle. Or is that not the right sort of ‘English heritage and culture’ for you?

Where what happens? Flags over porches? US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, being English is looking elsewhere being proud not here. Some lineage of yesteryear bears more relevance than now, always baffles me as I have Irish and Welsh heritage and have lived in a few places but this is my home, no where else, if I was continually looking elsewhere I’d move there.
What a depressing notion to live in a place you want to usurp or despise. What do yanks say? Love it or leave it?

No, Barry. I was referring to examples of sandal wearers going off to celebrate other countries whilst despising our own. You named some fictious event involving Bolivia. What I was saying is that if people really do go and do what you’ve suggested, name a real example rather than making one up.

Unlike you to be so tunnel-visioned Barry. Do you never watch the Royal bashes? Wall to wall union jacks. Never been to a street or village hall party to celebrate another royal wedding or Queen’s special anniversary? Never been involved in a piss up when we have won something? (Granted that doesn’t happen often). Us Brits are not an overly demonstrative bunch, but we do let our hair down when we feel inclined in celebration of something homegrown. The fact that we don’t need to cover ourselves in flags has probably got more to do with the fact that we are secure in who we are, so don’t feel the need, more than national self loathing. And the fact that we are more than happy to go and help others celebrate their own special occasions shows what a well balanced and well integrated bunch we all are.
Funny the liberals always say how intolerant we are, are we now the best?
