Not sure I have ‘accepted it’ - It may be the case, but I find it a bit sad if fans HAVE accepted this as it goes against some of the fundemental principles of sport…
So nothing has been released other than the fact that Koeman has not been involved and that Everton are asking about a new manager.
So nothing has actually happened yet.
You sly coy tease
You’re more than welcome to think and say what you like about Ralph Krueger; I hold no brief for him. My point was that he doesn’t run things, that he’s the non-executive chairman of the club. So, in the end, it matters even less what he says than it did what Lowe (or Cortese come to that) might have said. If you want to have a go at anyone, it should be Gareth Rogers or maybe Les Reed, not Ralph Krueger.
How do we create an environment that’s more attractive? Paying a lot more than we do might be one way. Good idea? Probably not, almost certainly not if the club wishes to stay properly solvent. Be a bigger club than we are? That would be a good trick. From what I can see the environment at Saints is very attractive to the right type of manager.
Now, if Koeman does go to Everton I’ll be massively disappointed, but that’s mostly because I don’t see Everton as a real step up for him. They’re a bigger club, certainly, but they’re in a mess and need a big rebuilding exercise as it is, plus they’re likely to lose some key players this summer. But I guess the potential could interest Koeman, and if they’re really offering a salary along the lines of what’s being reported, it might look even more attractive.
If he does go I’ll miss him a hell of a lot more than I miss Pochettino, but that’s down to personal traits in the two of them more than anything else. In many respects I agre with Chertsey’s post above - it’s all about the club and its structure, not the individual manager.
What a strange statement…we’ve “accepted” being a feeder club. Well, yes…because we are and always have been. We’re not one of the top clubs. It’s like saying to Andrew Ridgley that he’s accepted that WHAM have split up.
Are sky getting all their info from Twiiter and on here? Fucking joke. There has not been any official announcement from any one!
Wait … Now you’re telling Wham have split up! Jeez, the bad news keeps coming
Big club status ain’t easy to achieve. Leicester have just won the Premier League and I doubt many expect them to consolidate that position. It needs consistent success, but once achieved, the culture is partially self-perpetuating. Do those Leicester lads believe they’re going to go on the sort of rampage that Liverpool and Manchester United did? Nope, but if they pick up more honours next year, they will do. I don’t want to diminish their success. It’s huge, and knowing they’ve done it may buoy them in defending their Premier League title.
All kinds of reasons they might not do it, though. They may rest on their laurels, perhaps not have as much good fortune with officials or injuries. The number of fronts they’ll have to campaign on may also take its toll. If they don’t do it, and fade away in the next few years, quite a few of those new Leicester fans will move on to the last big thing.
You need sustained success and qualification in the biggest competitions to be attractive to the biggest names. The club is trying to do that, which is exactly why we keep running into situations where our staff get poached by other clubs. Players, managers and even department chiefs are always getting poached because we punch above our weight. By and large, we get a lot of quality in. We’re not hiring Sam Allardyce on a rescue mission and we’re not buying journeyman veterans with little resale value.
We’ve always been victims of our own success.
What’s changing is that we’re not getting as battered by our abusers as much we used to. We’ve improved our league position year on year despite the turmoil, and like Fowllyd and Cherts, I think that’s more down to club structure and shrewd appointments than just being lucky.
Until we get some silverware, or regularly berth ourselves in the CL, this is going to be how it is. Unless of course, we start doing shit or buy a high proportion of shit, and no-one wants that.
Rough with the smooth. We can’t expect to get quality staff in, do well, and expect no-one else to want them.

Uhm… the players, the culture, the structure are all well and good… and no one is suggesting its all awful… BUT how the manager utilises these, tactically is critical. How they can attract and keep the spine and quality players is critical. Its ironic that there seem to be a many fans that have now fallen in with the ‘corporate’ line, yet it only applies if the manager ensures continuity of style and function… too many managers dont adapt, but try and change what the squad have spent 2-3 years learning … and then everyone wonders why we are not as successful as previously…
…I am not stressed by it as in life this means fuck all to me, much more important things to worry about, but as we are on a football forum, and this is topic, Ralph towing the corporate line which is about as believable and sound a strategy as ‘starting a land war in Asia’ is rather vexing…

I dont disagree that we have a lot of good stuff going for us… but we have been lucky and that will run out at some point - wrong appointment is a biggest risk…and it was not too many years ago that we were all complaining about how many managers we were getting through yet not many were ‘sympathetic’ to the board when managers left for ‘better’ things… they were just added to the ammunition that we were unable to hold on to them - lacked ambition …etc etc… change of heart or thickle nature of fans?
maybe you need to look at it differently? Maybe instead of considering our appointments lucky, you should think of them as unlucky. We’re unlucky that they all want to leave. With a bit of luck the next one will want to stay because of a deep seated love for Southampton and the club. I think frank de Boer has that deep rooted love in his heart.

Nah…I want to stay a miserable cunt and be able to complain again this time next year - it is my calling
I get what you’re saying here Gay, but it won’t wash. If this were really your calling you’d have moved to the Alps by now - Scotland just doesn’t cut it I’m afraid.
Adam Blackmore seems to think it’s happening.
“I think he’s gone”.
De Telegraaf is also reporting that Everton have agreed to buy out his contract.
Could be time for a new manager thread very soon.
It’s happening. To be honest he’s been offered £6m a year
Go on then, Ted. Get the new manager thread on the go. I see it as both your nocturnal right and duty.
My opinion on the new manager doesn’t matter
Those bastards better not try & get Sammy Lee as well…
Fuck off you caaaants
Gay Highland Saint
With this offer Everton seem to be becoming Man City overnight - any new transfer dealings will be with clubs asking top dollar.
I’m guessing they could nearly get anyone in the world for that money so they look to me like the bloke at the auction who loses all sense and just keeps bidding.
It will be sad if he takes it and he will have some explaining to do, but it is ridiculous money.
Get me my black book, another club to add to the hate list…
