Koeman at Finch Farm with his agent?

Has he signed yet?

Meawhile, we better sign De Bore or my Glasto hat’s gonna be the wrong colour. FFS

And yes, I’d take AVB, he was hamstrung by the recruitment Muppets the Spuds had back then

Soooooo, what have I missed. Anything official from either club yet?

Nope…personally I don’t believe any of this…

I am trying not to get caught up in it all. Perhaps a bit of denial, but I am never surprised by football ever anymore!

it’s a bit weird. Even if he stays, which doesn’t look likely, he’s lost the support of many people, surely…especially if he insists on this one year contract business. It looks like he’s always waiting for the next opportunity. Why didn’t he just sign? Personally, I just want him to go now and us get some money and appoint the next great manager. The club say we always have a list of candidates, so lets get one of them. I’d prefer someone with pedigree who can attract quality signings, which is why I’d rather not have Howe.

I just don’t get it, what does the club have to do to keep it’s best players and managers.

Surely Everton are as much constrained by FFP as us so how can they pay Koeman 3 times (supposedly) what we do.

And what the fuck makes Everton (now!!) a better proposition than us, we have Europa League football, a decent stadium…

Like Gay I am starting to get hacked off with the whole thing, what the fuck is the club doing wrong??

£££££.

The club is doing nothing wrong…per se. The strategy is 'not to be held to ransome by any player or manager - create a structure and a culture into which personnel fit, In effect recruit personnel that fit our way of doing things rather than reinvent the wheel wheel when key personnel leave.

In effect the ‘system’ should not be fucked when we get change.

On the surface this is a sound and logical approach that is financially stable and should ensure continuity and consistency - it is also perfectly set up for youth development as the same system is used from youth to First team… in some respects its a mini version of what the Germans did on a national level between 2002-2014/now… BUT…

There is a problem with this in the prem league - because a) the increasing annual budget drives inflated costs… b) When Billionaires own clubs and get their own businesses to sponsor the club to the 100s of millions, they bypass FFP… this creates a league in which its an arms race. You do what we are doing (sound and logical) for 2-3 years and you get left behind.

The only real way to counter the attraction of bigger wages is real ambition (which in turn generaates the cash for bigger wages) but higher risk attached.

Answer? Fuck knows… BUT what vexes me most is Ralph’s fucking business bullshit phrases of ‘organic growth’, philosophically exchanging - it means fuck all and is classic ‘trying’ to sound clever to cover issues being questioned.

If the approach is so great and the club structure so solid, why the fuck would a manager not at least honour his contract - especially given as so many never get past 18 months in a job? I dont think its cash alone, but more about supporting ambition, and we simply dont do that.

There seems a stubborn refusal to adapt - when good businesses recognise when they have a strong and difficult to replace asset and do much more to ensure they minimise flight risk. I just feel that teh club does fuck all in this respect.

Fucking slow death this is!

slow rebirth more like. Let the fella go and we replace with better and move on. It’s the Southampton way.

Honestly, I am not bothered. How many managers have a seen come and go over the 30 years I have been watching Saints. I love Southampton FC, players and managers come and go!

exactly… And nowadays I have full faith in the board in appointing someone even better. Exciting times ahead for saints, I say.

No one is bigger than the club. No one. Disappointed if he does go because I thought he was bigger than that, but whatever. If he goes, lets look to continue to build.

Thing is SOG, this is sadly one of those phrases that fans love but have become a bit of an urban myth. Its an invention to make us feeI its OK to keep losing decent managers and players. Its simply not true. A decent manager or player elevates the the club to a higher level in both quality of play, results, and thus status and abilty to attract better… take that away and we are known for our ‘feeder’ status… if this is enough for some fans fair enough, but accept it for what it is, not justify it by inventing false platitudes such as ‘no one is bigger than the club’…

I’ve never forgiven him for taking out Platt, then scoring :slight_frown:

I disliked David platt as a young boy but I couldn’t even tell you why now.

That sounds very very wrong!
