Silly bastards. International reputation has gone down the shitter. Few are going to connect the dots between the heightened state of tensions and the capacity for things to go tragically wrong.
The Iranians deserve a bit of credit for owning up. Unlike the Malaysian Airlines that were taken out or went missing entirely, bereaved families at least have the truth.
I also believe them when they say that this was unintentional. Absolutely no merit in doing this on purpose.
They should have been smarter and paraphrased the Bush statement after the destruction of flight 655:
