what is the answer?

I was listening to John McEnroe’s desert island discs on the way home today. He got into a whole world of pain about comparing women’s tennis to men’s.

He was asked about Serena and he said she was the greatest woman player of all time. The Interviewer then said why not say she is the greatest player of all time and his instinctive response was that she probably wouldn’t rank in the top 100. He got pelters for it but he was unrepentant and said if you really want to compare set up a mixed tournament circuit

OK, quick few points althought I don’t know why I’m bothering.

  • It was the final of a quite decent competition that has had a lot of matches that have gone the distance, it was unfortuante that the final was a dud but you can’t judge the Women’s game on one match
  • Women play 3 game matches in all WTA events, Men play 3 game matches in other ATP events except the Grand Slams. Maybe the Women could play 5 matches at Grand Slams too :man_shrugging:
  • The tickets for the Final aren’t just for the final, as per the boxing analogy there are many other events going on, doubles, wheelchair finals etc. etc. etc.
  • Many men’s finals have been dud events where one player has dominated the other, does that make men’s tennis a rip off?

No I don’t know why you’re bothering either, only Bazza can solve this and he has deserted his own thread, I guess we will never find the cure to women’s tennis :sob::womens::tennis::poop:

In the real world if you had say, two lorry drivers, one male one female, the boss says to the male lorry driver, you will work 50 hours a week, and the female lorry driver will work 30 hours a week. Because she’s a woman. You will both be paid the same. What do you think would happen? Can’t have it both ways.

The women arent paid the same in Tennis.

I wonder if Barry likes women at all.

But there has been an ongoing, very vocal campaign for them to have parity. I don’t have any axe to grind to be honest, i just think sometimes the obvious has to be pointed out. In any other walk of life the idea that two people, one male one female would do exactly the same job, would get paid the same, but the man would work for 50 hours for his money and the woman for 30, would, at the very least cause eyebrows to be raised. That’s all.

They have at Wimbledon since 2007

How much have you spent on women’s tennis this year, @Barry-Sanchez?

You’ve made my point papperooney.

Diversion and totally incorrect, I hate ignorance.

You’ll be called a sexist for this.

Maybe they should have lower nets?

Just saying it as it is, that was a waste of money, lets see how long the men lasts today, that will be the one people want to see.
