Yes been sat in the car this morning driving about delivering and this is how I understand it.
this is where I have a problem with mp representation. I can’t agree with everything my candidate or their party stands for so, assuming they win, i’m expected to put up with the things I disagree with for the sake of the bigger picture. When there’s a referendum with a clear question and those eligible to vote have given their verdict, can they not even hold to that?
I know there has been discussion that the terms of exit were not put to referendum, so I suppose they could legitimately object to the terms proposed or negotiated.
if life expectancy is 81 on average and the average number of years to live with the decision is 16, wouldn’t the average age of over 65s have to be 65?
edit: i see they published their own life expectancy… disregard.
I’ve not heard anyone say the referendum was undemocratic? Of course people will trade insults or get upset if their horse hasn’t won and they don’t agree with the result, but that’s different to not agreeing with the process of democracy. It’s no different to any general election (Tories are all fascist bastards, Labour are inept, useless, war-mongers, etc, etc) and any ongoing political discourse.
Yes it is a much valued democracy etc etc. Yes the great unwashed have voted and yes we have to live with the result. Which would be a lot more palitable if the Leave voters had made informed decisions based on the many issues around membership and non membership. But as you and I know, many voted Leave because they have problems with Johnny Foreigners and think that we are something special. We are no more special than the likes of Germany, France, Italy, Holland etc etc. But today, as someone said earlier, we got our country back. Whoops bloody do. And what have we given up in the process? Still, at least we can keep those pesky foreigners out and properly fund the NHS (or what’s left of it by the time the Tories have finished with it).
All very interesting, but we’d need to see the same breakdown but showing the percentage of the total vote that these age groups had and so, what overall effect.
If it turns out that the 65+ group had the greatest influence then that would indeed be interesting - how the old have negated the young, but that’s democracy for you.
From the BBC. We’re going to see a lot of this, I suspect. It’s all very well saying that Big Business were the only ones benefitting from membershiup of the EU but that just isn’t true. They bring in shedloads of money to the UK and that filters through the supply chain employng loads of people. All those employed people pay for services and products from the little businesses. When Airbus, the big car manufacturers, the IT companies, the phamaceutical companies, the big financial institutions and so on and so on, begin to ‘review’ the investment strategies, that means that we’re going to start to see jobs depart our shores.
Why build the next Nissan model in the UK? Why not build it in Spain, or France, or Italy, or Poland? Banks can’t access the EU financial systems from London? Move them to Frankfurt or Paris.
And everyone will be effected. Airbus employs loads of highly skilled engineers and technicians and has a sophisticated supply chain. It isn’t going to close it down overnight, but when they design their next generation aircraft, where will they build the wings? Bristol? Why bother. May as well build them in France rather than going through the hassle of shipping them from the UK, now that the UK is no longer part of the EU.
Great.
Airbus "will review UK investment strategy"

The referendum result is a “lose-lose result” for both Britain and Europe, Airbus Group CEO Tom Enders says.
Given the economic impact, the aerospace and defence giant will have to review its investments in the UK.
Britain will suffer, but I’m sure it will focus even more now on the competitiveness of its economy vis-a-vis the EU and the world at large. But of course, we will review our UK investment strategy, like everybody else will."
RE: Scottish referendum - if somebody asked you if you wanted a bacon sarnie, you agreed to it and then they served it to you with a big fat turd on top, would you eat it? Conditions have changed and frankly I think a lot of people here feel more part of Europe than the UK. When there’s a referendum i’m voting out, and it’s only fair that Norn Iron should get the same opportunity.
I do like him for a tory and his hairdo was stunning last night, how can a man of his age have such lift and vibrant hair I don’t no, we can all dream.
