Labour MPs submit motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn

Posted at12:00

Labour MPs Margaret Hodge and Ann Coffey have sent a letter to John Cryer MP, chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party, submitting a motion of no confidence in leader Jeremy Corbyn.

The letter calls for a discussion at the next meeting of the PLP at 18:00 BST on Monday 27 June. This ballot has no formal constitutional force, but would be a significant expression of the lack of confidence of Labour MPs in their leader.

It is up to Mr Cryer to decide whether or not to accept the motion and allow it to be debated.

If it is accepted, it would be followed by a secret ballot of Labour MPs on Tuesday 28th. It would require a simple majority of MPs to support the motion for it to be passed.

Or as someone said over on the dark side

Those who have had to live with the EU the longest wanted to leave

Or maybe the older generation know bollocks when they hear it.

They’ve heard it for the last 40 years.

Whilst the SNP have power, this will always continue

UK leave EU - we must have referendum

UK change barnett formula - we must have referendum

UK renew trident - we must have referendum

England beat them at rugby - we must have referendum

They will continue to find reasons until they get their way ie independence

I can see why the Scottish may want another referendum - they votes last time based on the idea that Britain would be in the EU. That is a fundemental change and many people ill have now changed their minds. I think thats fair - they voted for something that has now completely changed.

We should get a referendum in first to have England leave Britain, so the Scots + Welsh will be left holding the sick baby srs.

Edit: Plus North Ireland soz

This is going to be the case everytime they don’t get their way. Sturgeon would have been happy if the Scottish vote had resulted in a Remain outcome against the wishes of the English. She is just being hypocritical.

As I said, hardly a landslide. And when you look at the number of young people who voted to remain, the people who are the future of this country, that really puts the poll in perspective.

This is what saddens me most about what has happened. My kids don’t live with me and we haven’t spoken a lot about the referendum. The eldest two are 19 and 18. They told me that they were both fully behind the Remain campaign. One has gone to Glastonbury yet made sure that she sorted out her postal vote. When they heard I was going to be away for the vote they both sent me texts reminding me to sort out my postal vote. They lived in Spain for three years when they were younger and have no problem with boundaries or nationalism. They were so keen to do their bit to keep us in the EU. Today they are both totally gutted and deflated. They have never known anything other than being European and they already feel that something huge is being taken away from them. Looking at the voting demographics they are not alone. They have no concept of xenophobia and when I talk of the Little Englander mentality they don’t have a clue what I am talking about because they believe everyone thinks like them. I have tried and failed to explain why anyone in their right mind would vote to leave the EU. Sadly the older generation will not have to live with the decision that has been dumped onto the younger generation as long as they will. I just hope that my kids, one day, get the opportunity to put things right.

So you have changed your mind but the original result still stands. Man up and accept just because it hasn’t gone your way you cant go crying and saying I want another go.

Over the coming months the Tory party will whittle it down to 2 candidates (May, Gov, Crabb, idiot chops…) then do the final vote. Then It will go to the commons to see if they give a certain percentage in the House of Commons, this could lead to GE. If not the new leader will need to create a new mandate. Then they could call GE in Autumn next year.

When turkey are fast tracked, new referendum.

To be fair, I’m not altogether against regular EU membership referendums. It shouldn’t be an all in or all out club.

:lou_facepalm_2: crying? Jeez… the originla result was the right result IMHO for the conditions at the time. There will now be a fundemental far-reaching constitutional change and it is therefore perfectly reasonable to understand that the conditions have changed and this may change how folks would vote in furure. As many of the leavers have been keen to point out recently,'that is democracy and if they want to execute that right,I am sure they will do.

I am not crying, i am not even surprized. I am just sadened that we do in this country have a large number of folk who voted for a right wing lurch or because they are worried about swarms of foreigners steeling our doctors apoointments… Fucking Little Englanders…

So this is dependent on the successor to be unable to form a government of majority, and therefore basically dependent on rebels unwilling to honour the consultative referendum result?

could be interesting.

It wont be Crabb he is an inner, you cant have a person advocating one thing and then negotiating for the other side.

I tell you what this is worse than the Scottish referendum.

Old people being blamed, the majority of the country being called uneducated bigots and yet this is the much-valued democracy we hold dear.

The message yesterday from every semi-famous person or try hard on twitter was go out and vote, make a difference.

Today the message from the same group is that most of the country are idiots.

It seems that democracy is great as long as it works in your perceived favour if it doesn’t everyone else is a fool.

Tomorrow the sun will rise, you will still be breathing and we still won’t have a manager #saintsmeltdown

Which is why the letter to Cameron from all those MPs including the leave campaign asking him to remain leader confuses me. Not only did he campain for remain, but when he was masquerading as leave, his negotiations weren’t up to snuff.

Yes been sat in the car this morning driving about delivering and this is how I understand it.
