Billy Bragg always seems to have something sensible to say for a commie…
Been saying for a while now that I’m not satisfied with the binary nature of the choice offered in the EU referendum. I believe in the hokey-cokey approach: neither In nor Out, but Shake-It-All-About.
The only point of staying in the EU is to reform it so that the rights of people and workers come before those of corporations and markets. At the same time, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we on the left must grasp the nettle of immigration before the far-right use it to win power. Here Paul Mason sets out how we might go about achieving both those things. Worth reading all the way through.
Here are a few that strongly believe they know what’s good for them:
The Establishment
Probably a minority of the voters in the referendum
Here are pretty much the only people who think we should leave the EU:
Everyone Else
Suck it up.
Whatever…yawn,… it will go how it goes, but read the list again if you think its just the ‘establishment’ - when viewed through that particular lens, would much rather be on the side of many of those (however unpleasent some of them may be) than the xenophobes such and bigoted fuckwits on the other…
He went on to liken the vote in Scotland to the EU referendum: “People find being asked these big constitutional questions … it’s a huge responsibility for people.
“Politicians are paid to make important decisions, not regularly remit fundamental questions to people in this way.
“That’s why both the European Union question and the Scottish independence question are generational questions.”
So George was on the radio this morning giving us the latest line in catastrophes that will beset us if we choose to leave. Apparantly if we vote to leave then on the 24th of June, we don’t have an economic plan. At all.
Now correct me if I am wrong, but surely it is the job of the stupid cocksucker to plan for all eventualities and have a contingency plan.
He is hardly going to walk into No11 on that Friday morning, pull out a fresh piece of paper and write at the top “UK economic plan”, underline it, then put his pen in his mouth and think “where do I start”.
George you can fuck off and take your bullshit lies and weasel words and shove them up your arse.
Now this is funny as fuck because for all your spouting about freedom, democracy and to be frank patronising teenage political rhetoric, you fail to see the irony in your last two attempts to counter my shared views - both with attempt at ridicule rather than respectful debate. You have systematically tried to put down posters who disagree with you POV, displaying at times an almost 'McCarthy level of paranoia with your ‘fear’ of those dastardly EU Comission types… Have ignored any expressed concern that given those groups advocating Leave, that such a decision may strengthen the positions of such right wing idiots … Which is typical of naive politics, ignoring such real concerns…
Yet you have now suggested I would let the Nazis in (re learning from history- you were most likely still pissing the bed when I first read Frisch’s Biedermann und die Brandstifter - in German- so was probably a bit ahead of you when it came to that lesson) and of McCarthism… Without a hint of irony…Fuck me, you are a comedy Genius…
Now I have tried - perhaps unsuccessfully to try and lighten this discussion given the complexity and intensity- ok it failed to have the desired effect, I can live with that but you need to Start being true to your own ideals of free speech and respect, for your opinions on this and other debates to credible.
I was referring more to the constant, and rather transparent attempts at guilt by association.
It’s not just you. It’s a central plank of the Remain argument.
“Oooh. Nigel Farage wants to leave. You’re just like him”, or whatever bollocks.
Why do you think the Brexit camp aren’t doing the same with Cameron and/or Osborne?
It’s because it doesn’t need to.
Pap - if you read my posts, I have never implied guilt by association, I merely pointed out that I feel uncomfortable about who is siding with both arguments and that on balance the lesser evils (IMHO) appeared to be saying Remain… To paraphrase Steelers Wheel ‘cunts to the left of me Bigger cunts to the right, here I Am stuck in the middle…’
others have suggested the potential strengthening of a validated right wing view on this and that this might be a concern we should consider…
others have suggested the potential strengthening of a validated right wing view on this and that this might be a concern we should consider…
I see that as another “fear bomb” thrown in by the left wing. If we Brexit the right wing are going to take over this country!! Why? Surely if the “Right Wing” fuck things up badly enough then the people will vote to oust them or will they suddenly have the mandate to change the constitution and keep themselves in power forever…
