Smith added that Dawson got the nod over Denly largely to cover for premier spinner Adil Rashid having a “little niggle”.

“Hopefully he’ll be fine and he plays a full part in the competition, but that slightly tilts things towards spin bowling cover as a priority,” Smith said.

Making inroads???

2 quick wickets and we’re into the tail

Clustery sort of day

Broad gone for 1 at 158.

Now 164/8. Thought it seemed a pitch to grind on and that 300 odd would be a decent score. Crane got tonked a bit though.

Snap, double jinx, can’t speak until I say your name

4 overs in, and 2nd wicket has gone

Tbh we should have taken advantage of their slump yesterday to 158-8 (and apparently we dropped some catches which we all know win matches)

But scoring rate seems much higher today…

50-2 after 18 overs lead by 121

Northeast not out 53

Either the guys are superhuman OR the pitch has flattened out. Partnership 170 so far
Lead is 250. Probably need that to be +375 before getting them in for 10 overs

Meanwhile Somerset have won by 49 runs in a low scoring affair :-

Terrific 3rd wicket partnership of 257.

Rahane gone, tea being taken, 266/3 lead by 337 runs!

Enough for a declaration or should they go out and swing the willow for a bit after tea??

Edit : Oh well, guess they’re going out to swing the willow (or whatever bats are made of these days)
