Should bring it back to Kings Park, the real home of Hampshire Cricket
Just discovered we have a Reality TV winner playing today!
No seriously!!
Ian Holland
Profile
Unique is an over-used word but it is an appropriate way of describing Ian Hollandâs entry into county cricket which can be traced back to an appearance on reality television. In 2012, Holland entered the Australian show Cricket Superstar, in which the former Australian captain Allan Border was the chief judge. He successfully made it through his trial before beating 14 other finalists on the show and winning a rookie contract with Victoria.
Holland, an allrounder who was born in Wisconsin in the United States but holds a UK passport via his English father, said: âI went into it without any expectations and came out with an opportunity. It was a chance to fast-track myself at that point of my career and it got me a foot in the door of the Australian system. It was Allan Borderâs involvement that gave it the credibility for me.â
Despite his TV success, Hollandâs opportunities for Victoria were limited. He made his only appearance in the Sheffield Shield in February 2016, as Victoria beat Tasmania by seven wickets. He played a couple of seasons for Fleetwood CC in the Northern League and was recommended to Hampshire by Dimitri Mascarenhas their former England allrounder, who he met in Melbourne in 2015.
Opportunity came in the Championship against Warwickshire in June 2017, and he starred later that month in a floodlit Championship fixture when he took four cheap wickets. It all added up to a highly respectable opening season - a 33 average with the bat, 18 with the ball in the Championship - in which he made his debut in all three formats.

And here are his statsâŚ
Down to bat at #6
Rahane goes for 10 on his debut
138-2 off 56.2 overs - pretty slow going by sounds of it
The crowd must be buzzing over on the IOW
The Hampshire v Notts game at Newclose on the Isle of Wight was briefly interrupted by bees during the afternoon session. We asked you to let us know of any unusual hold-ups youâd witnessed. hereâs one.
Wait, what?? I think theyâve sent the wrong tweet out
200/4, thatâs 1 batting point then
205/5 Alsop gone
Mullaney to Alsop, OUT ,
TP Alsop c â Moores b Mullaney 9 (22m 13b 1x4 0x6) SR: 69.23
210-5
288-6 at stumps.
My first visit to Newclose and on arriving it struck me that it was similar to Arundel (sans castle). The travel was dead easy. 25 mins on the red jet and straight onto a free bus to the ground.
Roussow resting a slight heel injury and Berg just rested for Saturdayâs final
The wicket did loads all day and only Northeast wasnât beaten regularly. Major dissapointment when he got out. Broad started poorly, but when he switched ends looked a proper test bowler. Soames was largely shotless, but did a similar innings to his debut last year at Worcester, which we won.
Rahane not in long enough to judge. Donald played with his usual looseness but got the score moving at the end of the day. Anywhere near 400 will be great, as Iâm sure Abbott Edwards and Barker will use the pitch properly.
Iâm back there tomorrow and Wednesday and will send updates if I remember and my phone behaves.
Ps Fuck off Polak you bald coont. (Only joking)
Currently 2 batting points then, 14 overs left to get as many runs as possible, 300 is the next point, then 350
Other scores from around the groounds
Not only lose Vince & Dawson for Saturday.
Lose Dawson for this game as wellâŚ
Will Crane be allowed to bat in the 3rd innings, or even bowl?
Think so, but probably not this innings
Precedent for England call ups I believe.
Also is this just a precaution to stop Dawson getting injured as they donât meet up until Friday??
