Considering the total that Yorkshire racked up, and the poor start to our innings, this really is one fuck of a result. Particularly pleased to see us declaring once past the follow-on figure and putting some pressure on the Tykes in their second innings. We were never going to win the match by then, but there was a pleasing boldness about the move. And reducing Yorkshire to 183-8 can only be a good morale boost for the team, especially given all the injuries plaguing us.
One final thought - a couple of people commented adversely on the performance of our top-order batting. Fair point, but Yorkshire did it twice.
We didn’t declare. We just didnt have a no. 11 to go in , as Edwards was in A&E with a fucked up ankle.
Cant quite believe that Yorks didn’t press on for a declaration, as we were, quite literally, the walking wounded.
and I wouldn’t force feed you Michael McIntyre and Mr Brown’s Boys in the same Saturday night festival of ‘humour’ written by simpletons for simpletons.
Amidst the glorious celebrations of a wonderful display from our little Red and White beauties…
let us not forget that our other love is also in action over this Bank Holiday weekend, and have got things off to a decent start by posting a first-day total of 315-7. Michael Carberry finally remembering that there’s still a very effective player in there when he can get his head together and stick around for a bit – leading the charge with a commendable 107 ; and Liam Dawson is currently 87 Not Out.
Middlesex Captain Adam Voges had to go to hospital with suspected concussion, after taking a sickening blow to the head from a ball fielded in from the boundary. His absence will sure be a great help to us, but it is always horrible to see anyone suffer something like that, opponent or otherwise. Hope he is ok.
