Are we due a new ball? We’ve bowled over 80 overs, but I’m not sure of the rules in county cricket. If we are, then take it and see if we can nip out the last three nice and quick, then go back in and knock up 150-200, even if we could make them follow on. This, I’d hope, will give us a lead of 300-350 along with plenty of time to finish them off. And it’ll mean a 24-point match and survival in the top division for next season.

Ever the optimist, me.

Yeah, Fowllyd, the new ball is available after 80 overs in County Cricket so I reckon there’s a good chance we’ll take it first thing, unless we think it’s better to keep the spinners on. Trouble with the latter option is that Dawson has been restricted by an injured spinning finger.

Even if we take Durham’s last three wickets cheaply and have a lead in excess of 150, I agree with you Fowllyd insomuch as I don’t think we’ll enforce the follow-on; instead, I reckon we’ll choose to bat with a view to gathering some quick runs before putting Durham back in some time after tea.

By then we might have a clearer view as to what’s happening in the Lancs v Warwicks match; if it looks like Warwicks aren’t going to lose then we will need to beat Durham, in which case it might pay us to set a sporting declaration, viz, one which Durham will go after instead of them shutting up shop. Hopefully, that will give us a better chance of getting the 10 second innings wickets we’ll need to stay up. But, the timing of any declaration will be much more difficult if there’s still a chance of us staying up with a draw. Of course, all this is assuming that we’ll knock off Durham’s last three wickets cheaply!

As Bucks says, it’s all getting a bit squeaky.

START_DELAYED: Start delayed due to rain

Meanwhile at Edgbaston

Warwickshire are 26-1

INPLAY: Warwickshire lead Lancashire by 93 runs with 9 wickets remaining

It was raining quite heavily here in the Bournemouth & Poole conurbation this morning but now it is sunning quite nicely. If the weather is going west to east (which looking at the way the clouds are blowing it is) then the covers will soon be off at the Ageas.

Right - well we’ve missed the final bowling point and Durham are still batting - don’t think we’ll win here. Usual problem of not being able to take 20 wickets (or 10) - eg Mason Crane 1-110

Only way we’ll stay up is if Lancs win…

balls.

Onions out at last 351-9

Doesn’t help that the umpires are given balls down the leg side as wides every single fucking time.

Which will require a mammoth improvment in batting from the 1st innings if so…

Finally!

361 all out,

Richardson stranded on 99 after his partner played a stupid shot (according to the commentators anyway)

50 run lead, Hampshire have got to put 200-250 runs on this afternoon.
