šŸ“ŗ GOOD SHOWS (no capeshit pls)

The old one didn’t so why should this version?

No Clarkson, although from what I hear, Chris Evans was trying his best to do an impression.

I love the fact that if I’m ever hit by the proverbial bus, there will be someone to post the Clarkson Island video whenever his name is mentioned.

Well it would be rude not to. And the line ā€˜ā€™ we have to trim their hair twice a year, or it gets all tangled up with the amount of shit that comes out of their mouths’’ is worth it every time :lou_sunglasses:

I like the Peaky Blinders and I loved The Sopranos. What bothers me that is the way that we root for the bad guys. These are batshit crazy psychopaths and if they moved in next door we would crap ourselves, yet we love these people (even Arthur Peaky Blinder, who is one of the biggests nutters out there).

Gomorrah.

Just watch it.

It’s on Sky Atlantic over here and it is fucking brilliant.

It’s a very gritty and very dark story of the Camorra (Mafia) in Naples. It’s a subtitled Italian language show and if you like grown-up drama and you enjoy the sensationalism and glamour of the Hollywood mafia stripped away, then you have to give this a go.

The show follows, Ciro a foot-soldier in the Savastano clan, and his struggle in the power dynamics between his boss Don Pietro (Savastano), Don Pietro’s wife Lady Imma, Don Pietro’s son Gennaro and Don Pietro’s enemy Salvatore Conte.

Ciro is beguilingly charming and handsome and yet so fucking cold and brutal. He is the archetypal anti-hero. You watch him trying to mentor the young Gennaro (who has a truly amazing character arc) and do evil things to keep the collapsing Savastano clan together, and you know he’s going to get him a lot of shit, but you root for him - even when he…, no I can’t spoil it for you.

Explaining Gomorra to a mate (Rust Cohle) I said it’s part Sopranos (massive story and cast of characters centred around a family), part The Wire (shot in a way that makes you feel you’re the fly on the wall) and part Miller’s Crossing (where the central character Ciro has to grift within his clan and between clans to get what he wants).

I haven’t enjoyed a show this much in a long time.

It gets 8.7/10 on IMDB and 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s also on Amazon Prime, I’ve watched a few episodes and really enjoyed it. But then my first dissertation was about Italian business corruption in the late 90s. I’ve just never got around to watching more due to life getting in the way. My half Italian cousin was part of the producation crew for 10 episodes of the first season. You could try and find the most English name and work out who she is.

If you want more subtitles. I watched the first episode of the French TV series ā€˜The Disappearance’ on BBC 4. I think about 5 episodes are now up on iplayer. About a 17 year old going missing after a night out at a festival in town and what happens next. Quite a few people have secrets. Including the missing girl.

Peaky B season finale last night and it finished as usual with a corker. The Shelbies put the dis into disfunctional familes big time but good to see Tom Hardy give Cillian Murphy a run for his money in the duplicitous bastard stakes. Many shows start well but run out of steam one the original premise has run its course. This one keeps building nicely.

Just caught up with it. So good. Cillian Murphy is superb. Those eyes! 2 more series have been commissioned.

Have I mentioned Lucifer?

It gets better and better.

I also discovered it IS being shown in the UK but on Amazon Prime - obviously I know you all subscribed to that so you can watch Jezzer & the boys in Top Gear Rebranded.

Anyway Tom Ellis was going nowhere in his UK career (East Enders) because he was too much of a Pretty Boy. Well, I tell ya. there are now people out there in the States who reckon he should be the next James Bond.

For a Welsh Git he does put on a great ā€œGhey Public Schoolā€ English Accent, and his ā€œRaffishā€ silliness is continually made to shine by his Deadpan Sidekick Cop. It is from the outside complete Tosh. But so much of the script are simple injokes or non-PC bombshells, that after GoT it really is the best damned show on TV at the moment.

ā€œThat’s a Hooker’s Nameā€

ā€œWhat’s a Hooker?ā€

ā€œAsk your motherā€ Was the first gag that told us it was going to be something special.

My daughter sees him around in Brighton quite a lot and says he looks smaller than he does on telly. She also mentioned the eyes!

Haha. I read that he and his family have moved back to Dublin so no chance of me bumping into him. :frowning:

Didnt know that. Perhaps he has been working in Brighton?

I am quite enjoying the swashbuckling in The Musketeers. Great cast too.

Gamorrah is one of the best series I’ve watch in a long time.

You’re not welcome here! *

But you are completely correct about Gomorrah.

Stunning.
