OK you Outdoor Sotonians I need a recommendation for a pair of warm, comfortable, grippy, WATERPROOF walking boots. I’m not a weekend walker, I walk everyday in all weathers across fields and through woods. About 6 or 7 miles a day with the dog.
I’ve not got a good track record with walking boots. I buy boots and shoes that leak like a sieve from the off. The best boots I have are my Cotswold Wellies I bought 18 months ago. They were cheap, 40 quid and are the only waterproof footwear I own. However they’re Wellies and not the lightest or the most comfortable.
I’m not bothered about price, just want a quality waterproof boot.
Tough one - ultimately I depends on the shape of your foot
I have Scarpa Vortex (shoe not boot) it is goretex so it’s waterproof and it’s comfortable for me - I am on my third pair
I would go to Cotswold or similar, try on loads and get your check book out - goretex or similar
It really is one of those purchases worth spending money on
Wellingtons and a good pair of socks. Did most people fine in the past (I.e. you staff) as you surely remember?
Leather? Then Timberlands every time for me. Had a pair for about 30 years - must be my 5th pair
Goretex boots are a REALLY bad idea when it’s -10C & snow and you are sitting around in a Van waiting for people. Equally Timberlands aren’t great on pure ice - then not much is.
For Goretex day to day stuff I have Salomon. Boots & “Trainers” - Great Boots, just need to try them on as their sizes are a good bit smaller than most others (even allowing for US v UK sizes) Trainers are SO confortable
(Bought at local Outlet Mall)
Lowa do a good range if you feel like pushing the boat out.
Sorry slow Lane - what you are looking for probably doesn’t exist, but good luck in your search.
When you find these walking boots over the rainbow, could you give us all the details!
You may conclude that I have been on this search for years.
just buy a pair of Doc Martins you know it makes sense.
18 hole of course in red
Yellow laces too?
oh fuck yes
Nearly Christmas.
Talking to a mate today who gets a hefty discount at Go Outdoors in Millbrook. Going to try on a few boots tomorrow afternoon…should have nobody but myself to blame for making a wrong choice.
What’s a slurp funnel?
Always found they have limited stock at that branch.
They seem to stock some decent makes…we’ll see.
