🗡 🎧 ⌚ Goaty Gadgets

I’m still wondering how smart you have to be to use a smartphone. Bit baffling really.

Got one of those - does the business, not that I talk to Alexa much tbh - am sure she’s very happy about that though :+1:

How’s it going with this @Bucks, I have a dumb TV in the kitchen and would like to extend it’s capabilities…

Going well cheers. My dumb TV now has iplayer, itvhub, my5, Netflix, amazon prime and a bunch of others all accessible via the TV, so no more laptop attaching needed.

The only app it can’t load is All4, but then you can just “cast” this by opening up All4 on your phone etc and press the cast symbol. The same goes for photos / videos / you tube and tons of others - all can be cast to your TV by one touch.

It can learn what you watch and suggest content (if you want), has a simple remote plus voice search.

Plus I can just unplug it from the back and move to another TV if needed

£37 well spent for me :+1:

Does it have Airstrip One News on it?

I hear Mr O’Brien is a popular presenter.

Just upgraded my surround sound system as part of our lounge renovations:

Yamaha RXV-6A AV receiver
Monitor Audio Bronze 50 L + R
Monitor Audio Bronze C150 C
Yamaha MusicCast 20 RL + RR
Elac Debut 2.0 Atmos FL + FR
Sony UBX 700 Bluray

Hoping to get some proper Atmos action going on.

Sounds decent!

I have a couple of Monitor Audio BR2s from a few years back, pared with some floorstands. Punchy as hell, love them

They’re up to £60 now…

Think I got a cracking deal / promotion on mine, sorry!

I made a mt32-pi using a Pi-Hat and a Raspberry Pi 3B I had lying around. Essentially, it’s a bare-metal drop in for a Roland MT-32 midi module.

This piece of kit was released in 1987, so the music in this video could theoretically be heard coming out it back then. I think any Amiga owner hearing this coming out of a PC thought about switching at this point.

Nostalgia gadget time…

Onkyo mini Hifi up and running after nearly 5 years of storage. Pushing out a suitably older dance mix through Monitor Audio speakers. Still belting.

Has it arrived yet ?

Which make, what model, size, etc? We need details!

Arriving tomorrow, My Fair @PhilippineSaint

1200 quid for a fucking telly??! FFS :flushed::smile::smile:

Very cool.

I recently acquired an LG CX 65, bigger but the 2020 model, FWIW.

My first new TV in 14 years so decided to go big

Well it has arrived and I am very impressed. Black is proper black, the colours pop, and natural filmed 4k (as opposed to CGI) feels uncannily real.

Not really a gadget, or maybe it is, but for anyone in the market for a modern, simple, flexible home alarm system, I can recommend SimpliSafe.

One of the newer breed, its wireless and dead easy to install yourself. Also modular so you choose which of the various devices you want and can add others later if needed. Monitoring is optional and there is no contract beyond each month. All run by an app, so you can switch it on or off, view cameras etc, wherever you are. :+1:
