Donated, belatedly. Brilliant effort.

Does anyone on here have experience of Collection Pot?

During my mayoral year I will be fundraising for two or three charities and I want to set up a donations platform that will allow payments into an account (there is a dedicated Mayor’s Charity account) rather than direct to a charity, as Just Giving requires. I will then be able to donate in equal shares to the charities.

It looks ok, but would appreciate any reviews.

Warning: I will be pestering one and all for donations in due course. I intend to set an ambitious target.

After a lot of thought and research, I have decided to nominate Sue Ryder and The Epilepsy Society as my charities for my mayoral year.

Sue Ryder provide emotional and practical support for those with terminal or serious neurological conditions, their families and the bereaved. They particularly provide help for families coping with terminal conditions other than cancer.

As some of you know, my three-year-old grandson has a serious genetic form of epilepsy called Dravet’s Syndrome. He has frequent seizures and these are resistant to currently available medication. The condition seriously impacts his development and the day to day life of all his family: any activity is difficult as he can never be more than 30 mins from a hospital. I regularly spend weekends giving respite care.

So my second charity is The Epilepsy Society who fund research, care and support for families. In comparison with major charities they struggle for much-needed funding.

I apologies for calling on the Sotonian goodwill once more, but I want to raise substantial funds this year and will be immensely grateful for any donations.

You can donate at https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/mayor-of-wems-charity.

Huge thanks in advance

Thanks for donations already received. Very generous.

In aid of my mayoral charities. I’ve decided to do a sponsored skydive. Well, actually, that’s not quite right. In fact. I’ve done a skydive and now realise it was such an intrepid act I was stupid not to get sponsored.

I know it’s not the same as I’ve already done it, and there isn’t the excited tension wondering if I’ll survive, but on the other hand. I have done it and can’t chicken out

Any donations, no matter how small, would be enormously appreciated. My charities are Sue Ryder and the Epilepsy Society. Here’s the evidence that I did it!

You can donate, if you would be so kind, at

In a month I am hiking 54km around the coast of the Isle of Wight. It’s not flat and could have 30-40 mph winds.

I am raising cash for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. I was diagnosed 5 years ago and am doing well, but many others find it debilitating. My main symptoms are in my feet so this is going to bloody hurt!

Any small donations, even a few quid, will be very much appreciated. Cheers Sotonians :+1:

I’m sorry to hear that Richard. Lady Slowlane was diagnosed with the same 42 years ago…slowing up a bit now but still walking wounded.

Wow, extremely fair play to Lady SL. Although there is still no cure, there are nearly 20 drugs around now which try to slow down the sodding disease and none of these existed back then. I doff my proverbial cap

Thanks all you generous bunch. My work will add another slug at the end too, £250 at least.

I just need to finish it now, ideally before midnight on the day though that might be wishful thinking

Done. Enjoy walking vertically past Ventnor CC. Aptly called Steephill.

32km training walk done yesterday. Was in pain and not just from the memory of watching the 2nd half on Saturday. Just had a 7am start time confirmed for the event, so there is a chance I will be done before the finish line shuts for the night…

Mrs Bucks and I survived the 54km yesterday. In quite a lot of pain and shattered, started at 7.30am, finished at 8.47pm. Weather was kind, but it was still a mudbath in places, one poor guy fell and broke his leg. :slightly_frowning_face:

Raised £2.5k between us for the MS Society, thanks again to supporters! Taking it very gently today…

Thankfully, we started in Chale, 6 miles to the west of Ventnor CC and headed in the opposite direction. We “only” did half the island so finished outside Cowes, but some nut job people did the whole island over 2 days (some seriously nut jobs did it non-stop).

I heard a few of them talking about the bloody great hill waiting near the end of their 106km :+1:
