Lucky you werenāt banged up in chokey or worse.
Hamish Hawk, Leftfield and Sprints were my highlights from the weekend. First time Iāve been to Butlins since the seventies! It was actually surprisingly good. We did stay in the hotel rather than a grotty chalet.
Hamish Hawk is great⦠when to my old Uni, love his Neil Hannon vibe and
ā Weng for an MRI ended at a huge outdoor gig in yown.ā ?
Eh?
MRI scan on a Sunday evening?
Fire engines?
Yeah. Welcome to Poland
Itās why we donāt wait so long for surgery.
Gig was great more later when fingers thaw out
ELO Experience on Friday night in Wimborne.
Not particularly fussed either way about ELO myself, but the birdās a big fan. Iāve got to say they were really good, very authentic sound and put on a terrific show. Weāve already booked for their next visit a year from now
Was the Jeff Lynne lookalike wearing a syrup?
Yes.
Yes, he most certainly was, as I can attest after meeting him briefly in the lobby after the show. He wasnāt impressed when I expressed my severe disappointment that theyād played absolutely nothing from War of the Worlds. ![]()

If your lot interacted in any way with the audience they were mega fake
One of my biggest Glasto disappointments
Oh, he did plenty of talking. ![]()
My ELO true story. Back in the day, would have been mid to late 70s I reckon, myself and two friends went to see ELO, or The Electric Light Orchestra as they were then billed on the posters, at Portsmouth Guildhall. We took our seats about four rows back in the front circle, settled down then watched in amusement as two late middle aged ladies dressed up to the nines, evening gowns, one of them even clutching a fan I kid you not, took their seats a couple of rows in front of us. They looked around, you could see they were a bit disconcerted at their fellow classical music lovers seated around them, denim clad, long hairs etc. We very quickly clocked on that somebody had probably bought them tickets as a wind up. The lights went down, lighters flicked on, spliffs were ignited,(those were the days), and the support band, who were the very loud Brummie three piece raunch and roll combo, the Steve Gibbons band launched into their opening number. All eyes were on the two ladies who were looking at each other, clearly in a state of shock. They managed to last until the end of the first number, then when Gibbons cracked on into the second one they rose from their seats, making their apologies as people were standing up to let them squeeze past, with the rest of us giving them a round of applause to send them on their way. A true story which I still fondly recall regularly, which never fails to put a shit eating grin on our faces when we get together and reminisce about the good old days. ELO were excellent too.
Blockheads at Papillon tonight.
Really terrific show. Itās our first time at the venue as well, very impressed with it. ![]()

Tiny stage though?
Yes, but it didnāt detract from it. If anything, made it a bit more atmospheric.
You mean back in the day when they couldnāt play a bigger venue? ![]()
Size isnāt everything. ![]()

No pictures, but last night Johnny Nomates went to Heartbreakers to see C Duncanā¦fuck this guy is good. An unashamedly romantic vibe to the solo performance, managed to avoid smashing one loud talker in the face, but it was a close run thing. This one was just one of many highlights.
