🗳:tories::labour: General Election 2024

Fought a good fight coming second in my constituency, but it was a new one Gerrymandered to ensure the stories we only ever likely to win, but the expected margin was a lot lower than predicted

Our old constituency (under Raab) went Lib Dem this time round.

Do you think this is a sea change for the Libs or do you think they got “lent” a good chunk of the Tory vote whilst they sort themselves out

Locally - Desmond fucking swayne held his seat as did Julian Lewis in the Newforest

Southampton Itchen and Southampton Test are Labour and Romsey stayed blue by the skin of its teeth

One bit of good news is that Fabricant is gone

… and still they come.:smile:

Not quite

Ignore me, Corbyn was 2017

2017 vote share

So 6.2% less than Corbyn then

Hmmm, let’s see how many of these they actually manage to get done.

None, but it wont be from a lack of slinging money at the problem

…and a fond farewell to MP Penny…always worth another view, certainly the high in her career.
Always brings to mind @trousers description…“As graceful as a wardrobe being tipped out of a wheelbarrow”…

Even back in the '60s it was said, “put a blue rosette on a pig and it will win in The New Forest”…nothing changes.

Centre left? With the best will in the world there’s no way the Starmer led Labour Party is in any way left. Centre Right, and that’s being charitable.

Can’t be, that’s where Farage claims Reform stand.

A bit of both. I think we put forward a decent manifesto and, with the help of a few stunts and actually answering questions rather than repeating the mantra, git it across. The card issue resonated well.

But yes, many traditional Tories are utterly pissed off with them and have voted for anything to get rid of them. Their problem is this isn’t a sticking plaster problem: they are in seriously deep shit and “sorting themselves out” may not be possible with Starmer grabbing the middle ground and appearing relatively sane, Farage mopping up the right wing (I think for the foreseeable future) and LibDems building.

If the new Tory leader (not much choice) moves to the centre, Farage will have a field day and attempt a reverse takeover. A move to the right to get the Reformers back will continue the feeling that they’ve lost the one nation Tory ideal and lose core support. And they can’t do nothing, so fur the time being, I think they’re stuffed.

All they can do is wait for Labour or Farage to seriously fuck up. Unlikely for the former - far too cautious - but highly likely with Farage, but he’s rapidly assuming a Trump-like immunity, noatter what he does. After all, he’s just this good old ordinary guy who speaks for us all. You’d have thought they would have learned from Johnson.

It will be Kier losing control of his left wing

He’s been ruthless so far but you could be right. Sunak lost control of his right wing, left wing, centre wing, umbrella, flight timetable from France, betting account …

He’s already expelled most of his lefties. Given the size of the majority, his first task now is to get shot of the rest. Cue baseless accusations of antisemitism, transphobia, Islamaphobia, followed by his trademark kangaroo court and expulsion to the wilderness.

Too many on the NEC and the union will be asking for the ROI on their contributions -

Blair and Mandelson will deal with them.
