šŸ•¹ Games I am playing at the moment

Iā€™ve been delving further into MGS V. Could have discussed this on its own thread, but figured Iā€™d keep the gaming updates here for now. Iā€™ve been stuck on the third mission for a bit now, and finally completed it this evening. In the last mission, I found I was getting penalised for killing people, or at least not gettng a no kill bonus.

Managed to complete this mission without killing anyone. The game has itā€™s usual mechanic of just being about to tranq dart or use close quarters combat, but a new dynamic is the ability to attach a balloon to fallen foes, whisking them back to your base. Another new mechanic is time slowing down when discovered by an enemy; this makes the game tons more forgiving as long as you can tranq dart someone in the noodle.

Eventually plotted a course through the camp, using non-lethal means for every opponent,. although I did blow some shit up to prevent any reinforcements from being radioed in. Very emergent, and coupled with systems that really help. The game wants you to do well, emphasises stealth and most of all, makes it a lot of fun.

Playing Witcher 3 at the mo. Red dead meets sky rim. Juryā€™s out so far but it is proving to be a time thief.

Sim Cityā€¦ Love this game!

In more ā€˜what Ant did on holidayā€™ news, I picked up a cheap Vita game on a punt just before I left - the rather ridiculously-named Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin.

And itā€™s fantastic.

Iā€™ve played quite a few of the Lego games before (the first couple of Star Wars/Batman ones being stand-outs) but this is probably the best of the bunch. Humour, variety and polish in abundance. Why it was only released for handheld consoles Iā€™ll never know.

Yes, I know Iā€™m a child. Funā€™s fun!

Really enjoying Lara Croft Go, at the minute.

Lot of time for these ā€˜Goā€™ re-imagining of franchises. They bring an interesting take on existing titles, and give them a unique puzzle twist to the originals. The Hitman version got a fair bit of love, but I far prefer the Lara Croft game. Works really well on mobile I think.

Good time killer.

I really like the Lego games, they always seem to be great fun. Really like the look of the latest, Lego Dimensions. Though, some of the add-ons do make it look pretty expensive!

This is on my list to play, but other stuff has to be finished first. I have too many unfinished open world adventures as it is.

How are you getting on with this? I am intrigued, but Iā€™ve already got loads of big games.

If anyone is commuting today (and has an iPhone), Iā€™d recommend throwing a few quid at Downwell. Cracking little game that.

i used to play these games all the time when younger.

Dice football, I used to get all the league ladders from shoot mag and do the draw out my saints hat, then you just need a dice for half time and full time score.

Anyone that has an iPhone/iPad, Monument Valley is currently free. You can get it on Android too, but it costs a couple of quid.

Cannot recommend this game enough, even the paid version.

Ooh, good bump, KRG.

I got some stuff in the Steam Sale that Iā€™ve been taking a look at. Assassinā€™s Creed: Black Flag, finally running at 60fps, is a thing of beauty and was a real bargain for 6 quid. If youā€™re in any way OCD about games, youā€™ll love it. I just hung around in Havana doing side missions for ages. There isnā€™t really a bit of this game I donā€™t like. Traversal & movement is a lot of fun. Ship combat rocks too.

Iā€™m on the move at the moment so I am trying to get through Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on the ā€œNewā€ 3DS (FFS, Nintendo!). It is a great game, but has lost the Japanese voiceover in translation to its new form. The Brit voice acting ainā€™t great, and the same end of battle announcements, badly acted, are now really getting on my tits. Canā€™t really play it with the sound off either - the music is very decent and there are a lot of audio cues that complement the real time battle system.

Feel my pain, bros.

I missed the sales, but then again I still havenā€™t even downloaded the majority of the games I got in the last sale and Iā€™m still to play Fallout 4 yet. So probably not the worst idea ever.

Got a few games on Steam Iā€™ve got my eye on though.

Look, itā€™s research, all right? I donā€™t have a problem.

It says a lot about modern living that people prefer to spend literal days in a post apocalyptic wasteland, taking heads

Fallout 4

Had heard good things about the Vita visual novel Steins;Gate and it recently got an English translation/EU release so I picked it up for Ā£15. Thought it was worth a punt for that much.

Iā€™m not sold on this sort of ā€˜gameā€™ though, despite liking graphic novels. If this is one of the best-written examples then Iā€™d hate to see the worst.

Also recently picked up Until Dawn (interactive horror) for the PS4, and thatā€™s meant to unfold and branch pretty nicely. Looks like a decent-quality first party title. Will report back once Iā€™ve actually started it.

oh if any one is interested we lost the quarter final, so this game is quite realistic!

Just bought Football Tactics. Itā€™s a bloody brilliant little turn-based football game, still in early access.

You can create your own team or manage an existing one. Iā€™ve gone the team creation route, so am currently going through the amateur leagues.

Two big flaws of Football Manager,

  1. Too much entropy. Doesnā€™t feel like you have any control over the game. A reloaded result will play out differently.

  2. No sense of being anywhere near a football stadium.

This addresses both of those flaws. Part RPG, part tactics. Iā€™ve only been playing for half an hour and love it already.

My favourite game at the moment is paying the best part of Ā£700 a year to watch a load of old crap every fortnight.

The interactive element means that the worse it gets, the more idiotic the people around me become.

I used to play it years ago but Iā€™ve only just got back into it recently.

Iā€™m hoping itā€™s one of those games that will go out of fashion in the new year - if Iā€™m still playing it in April Iā€™ve got a problem.

Level 34 in Fallout 4 and loving it, not too sure whether to get Star Wars or the Witcher next, heard brilliant things about the Witcher but not so about Star Wars.
