First glimpse of this my initial impression was ā€˜oh no not another cash in on an old successful franchise you cock suckers’, then I see David Chase is behind the whole thing and now I’m interested :lou_smiley:

Watching a high def version of Lord of the Rings Extended edition. It’s weird because it appears that the Hobbit wasn’t the first time Peter Jackson had aspirations of 48 frames per second. Evidently, this movie was recorded this way too.

Odd experience. It is actually more realistic, but the fact we’re so used to 24 frames per second makes it feel less so.

The Tomorrow War. Amazon.

Hmm.

The basic plot is Alien Invasion, so drop back in time to get troops to fight for a future.
The concept is good. The CGI action sequences are superb, almost gripping, but then everything around them is a bit ā€œsocially distantā€ or flat.
As such it’s a popcorn movie for beer night, when it could have been more Alien it went all family.
And some of the script has places where accidents are bound to happen or shit anyone who ever watched an episode of Dr Who would know so you’re saying but just do xxxx at the screen.
Worth watching but they should never have let Interns loose on the script/plot, OR if they did then be consistent let them ruin the whole thing not just some bits.
5/10

Exactly- Did what it said on the tin.

Mind you, the ads I’d heard on the radio built it up to something it should / could have been.

The fact a life sciences teacher had to spend 15m of the film realising actions taken now affect the future was grating!

Midway.
An old fashioned lots of big names historical War Movie.
Very well done.
Again, superb CGI. Really shows the bravery of the pilots of the Carrier based Dive & Torpedo Bombers
Avoids the over sentimentality of Ben Aflecks’ Pearl Harbour remake.
Gripping action scenes.
7/10 because it does have a bit too much ā€œback to homeā€ in it.

How does any film including Craig Fairbrass very raise sufficient funds to be made?

So I watched the new Mortal Kombat film last night. One goes into these films with certain expectations - largely that they are going to be utter shit, so this one easily eclipsed those expectations.

It actually looks pretty classy - sets and much of the cinematography are surprisingly good. It also has a surprisingly coherent plot, with character arcs and all sorts.

Kano in particular is a joy to watch, with some scene-stealing performances. It’s also not a PG13, which means there is some nice gore. This was never going to be the Godfather, but if you’re a fan of the game and Itchy & Scratchy style violence, it’s a lot of fun.

We watched Geostorm last night, picked up the bluray at Wickham market in the morning. Ranks right up there with the worst films I’ve ever seen, quite cringeworthy. We sat through it to the bitter end stunned by it’s sheer dreadfulness. Avoid :joy::joy:
