Sorry, meant to say. Very presumptuous.
Whatās your favourite film with an unhappy ending? Mine would be Brazil without a doubt.
Here are some right off the bat.
- Dr Strangelove
- The Long Good Friday
- Scarface
- They Live
- The Usual Suspects
Thatās a good list, Long Good Friday especially
Great film for all sorts of reasons, not least because so much of it is shot on location. Like going back in a time machine.
A power Iām sure Hoskins character wishes he had during that final car journey!
Iāll also add:
Planet of the Apes (original).
This is England.
In Bruges.
Seven.
Honourable mention to The Departed just for killing off 95% of the starring cast.
The Maltese Falcon
Just watched āThe Beastā, Jason Patricās very next film after The Lost Boys, released before that blockbuster came out.
He was a guest star on Ty and That Guy this week. Never knew this film existed before but Iām glad I do now.
Itās based in Afghanistan in 1981. Itās a bit like Das Boot with a tank, except itās not eight hours long and has an arguably better plot.
What channel / streaming site?
I bought it on YouTube, £6.79.
To help you find it.
Jason Patric is a very interesting character. People think heās had a failed career, but with the world at his feet after The Lost Boys, he just kept on making things he wanted to make. Mentored a lot of younger people such as Matt Damon too.
Just watched The Equalizer (2014) and would thoroughly recommend it. Itās on Netflix.
Wouldnāt normally have high hopes for films based on a show, but this is a brilliant adaptation. Itās two hours long and devotes some of that to sub-plots where Denzel Washingtonās Robert McCall sorts little things out.
It is super violent, inventively so in a lot of cases. The denouement takes place in a rather run-of-the-mill location which is creatively turned into a giant cathedral of killings.
Great villain and itās a proper 18 certificate. Washington is bloody fantastic in the lead role.
Great film really superb downplayed acting by Denzel & the way the violence is done is so clever.
The sequel isnt as good, but still well worth finding and broadened the Franchise well. Then it stopped & rumours now of Queen Latifa taking on the role???
Been re-watching a lot of Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy movies. Theyāre very simple in construction. The essential plan is this.
- Start a movie with a general outline, no dialogue and a shitload of actors you trust to pull the next bit off.
- Get them to improvise every scene.
- Back up whatever shit theyāve said with A/V.
It shouldnāt work, but it really does.
Anybody wanting something to watch tonight Blazing Saddles is on BBC4 at 10.10
I wonder if a certain word used will be bleeped or substituted or even cut?
Beans?
Hmmm yes was just wondering that myself.
I was checking the recommendations on the other threads and Red Hot Dutch is quite good
