My Grandad was rescued from Dunkirk. 3 army mates and himself, made their way to the beach and under heavy fire, took shelter in a crater to await rescue transport ā¦ no food or water and with injuries.
3 days later when it was their turn to do the off, he was the only one still alive. I canāt even start to imagine how scared and distraught he must of been ā¦ he was like 22 yo or something. True story.
Anyway he would of been well chuffed with the five star reviews and be singing* his heart out, voice a tremble with pride !!
Went to see Dunkirk. The film was ok, but agree wholeheartedly with this report and did think the same thing. It just did not match the history books!!
Terrible article, āBrexiteer fantasyā was a definite low point and I struggled to take anything she said seriously after that. Not everything with white people in is a racist whitewash, did the author try and get Christopher Nolanās take or reasoning on the use of white cast members and extras? I very much doubt it. Poor ājournalismā IMHO.
Must admit i was interest enough to google historical images of dunkirks, and there was lots of photos of troops but hardly a blackface to be seen. Maybe they didnāt bother photo the darkies, or they was already rip, but you can see why nolan would think they was Scarce, based on Historical Photos.
Oh and I would not bother going to watch it, found it a little bit of a drag to be honest, but ok if you have sod all else to do, or are looking to get out of a house clearout/tidy!
