📽 Films I have seen

The opening scene of Babylon is 34 minutes long
And batshit mental
Oscar nominated so I watched unusual for me as it wasn’t Sci-Fi
It is a hedonistic been fuelled tragic marvel
Can’t spoil it other than you know it will be a tragedy
Very good film Brad Pitt & Margot Robbie are great but the stars are
Nah. Watch it if you can

Could also go in documentaries as is one… but a is quite a powerful film, Any one of us…

For the BBC iPlayer

Contains some strong language and upsetting scenes.

*When professional mountain biker Paul Basagoitia experiences a devastating spinal cord injury (SCI), his life is changed in an instant. Discovering that he’s become paralysed, Paul *

begins an intense physical and emotional journey to recover and adapt, initially living in the hope of one day being able to walk again as he once did. His excruciating recovery unfolds in real time through raw, intimate footage- much of which was filmed by Paul himself- as we see him wrestle with the agonies of an unpredictable journey and uncertain future. A chorus of other diverse SCI survivors weaves through the film, shining light on the challenges that Paul now faces. Through years of relentless hard work, intense physical therapy, and even controversial stem cell treatments, as well as the unwavering support of friends and family, Paul slowly beings to build a new, meaningful life for himself.

Guy Ritchie dropped a new Action Comedy in January.
Operation Fortune: Rules de Guerre
Gotta feel sorry for him, choosing Ukrainians as the “bad guys” but not sure that was a good enough excuse for him to simply go through the motions on the film.
Fact is, the locations and the costumes are stunning, Jason Statham plays a lighter version of The Transporter (without his comedy French Sidekick) where an "off the books Security Department of HMG seek “something” and need to recruit a Hollywood Actor to help and it’s an OK romp to watch with the other half.

What does elevate the film and provides all of it’s best moments is the actually superb overacting by Hugh Grant as an East End Arms Dealer Billionaire. He really is awful and good and cliched and funny all at once.

It’s never  but it does keep a :slightly_smiling_face: all the way through.

Could be a Franchise of nonsense but then Glass Onion probably stole that idea as well

So 2 hours of entertainment for a long haul flight or when you want to just “watch something with the other half”

In 3, 2, 1.
Oh.

That WAS funny

Avatar 2 has dropped on my dodgy web site
Over streams may be available
Half tonight, half tomorrow
45m in better than I expected

I paused Avatar 2 at 1h 48m went off bingeing shows.
Until then it was OK world building.
Shortly after I restarted Boom! That world building pays off. Just paused for breath before diving back in.
Phew

Rocky CMLXXII
The 3,971st version of a no hoper in Boxing.
Or Creed III
And it rocks.

Just the smallest twist takes it to good Rocky shit level

You probably do need to step away from streaming services - at least for a few hours of screen time - @Polski_Filip

It’s unusual for a true story to leave me breathless.
(Well since the Debbie does Dallas days)
I was sceptical when Tetris popped up on my to watch stream.
Meh its free why the story? I thought.
Well, 2 hours later and hotta say it’s a great and stupidly true romp and manages to include tge fall of both Tge Soviet Union & Robert Maxwell.

Very watchable 8/10

As I’ve said before, Tetris is a great metaphor for life.

You start, a bunch of shit is thrown your way that you’re expected to sort out. You die.

Ghosted Apple + the 2023 version
Nonsense CIA secret weapon caper following the old innocent person gets dragged into shit going down formula.
But.
It has deadpan Chris Evans & a smoking Ana de Arma firing sparks and a tongue in cheek vibe to it.
It made me smile and a couple of times smirk.
Candyfloss entertainment to watch with the other half.
It’s a load of old cobblers but not shit.
Way more entertaining than the cup semi apart from the Solly March penalty

Clerks III

I’ll state upfront that you need to have watched the prior two films to derive the maximum benefit from this one.

I was expecting to laugh and I did. The movie has some tremendous bits in it which had me cackling

I was not expecting it to be so tender

If you’re on the Clerks train, you’ll be pleased with the final stop

Defence of the Realm, 1985 cold war story set in London. Fantastic cast, great storyline, late cold war atmosphere. Really enjoyed this one.

Prime Video

Air.

The story of Nike trying to sign Michael Jordan.

Great cast not Moneyball Good but a good watch and a great (1984) era Soundtrack

A couple more films over the weekend.

Creed III, which is pretty good and the new Dungeons & Dragons film which is gloriously not shit.

Tried A Man called Otto - a Tom Hanks “Comedy”

Found it very not funny even though it is highly rated, had choice between Dungeoans & Dragons & chose Air.
DnD later in the week it is then

(Glad someone else enjoyed Creed III)

That sums up every Tom Hanks film since Big.

The original film by the name “A man called Ove” is much, much better - especially in the original Swedish - The book is worth a read.

Post Covid Lockdown, I am sure there us artistic merit in these things but I really can’t be watching a comedy about a man made redundant and who wants to commit suicide.

Don’t think I’d find it funny no matter who the star was tbh.

Watched The Covenant, Guy Ritchie’s new movie at the weekend. Very very good.
