📢 ☁ Fighting, terrorism

MSM, Phil. It’s what they want you to think.

In cold calculated electioneering terms this is now moving from halting Labour’s momentum and protecting the Conservatives, to highlighting that change is needed as the current government’s policy clearly isn’t working.

Negative connotations with terrorism have already been smeared all over Corbyn by the Tories as you well know. It hasn’t stuck particularly well, but for some people the smears will certainly be off putting.

I’m not saying this won’t backfire on them for the sorts of reasons that you give. But my gut feeling is that these events have an intent behind them to aid May’s campaign. whether she is complicit or not is another question, but I suspect not.

When do you start arresting and deporting everyone wearing Arsenal shirts?

Whatever the motives of the attackers, these attacks have dovetailed rather conveniently with the image they’re trying to present of Corbyn.

It could backfire if people realise that he hasn’t actually been in government.

Hmmm - do I detect a distinct whiff of political opportunism from May?

I sincerely hope you are right Rallyboy. More of the same will bring us more of the same. We need a new approach and that is something that we won’t get with May. The trouble is that Corbyn will be smeared with a friends of terrorist tag again and that doesn’t sit well with Middle England.

When you are the one who made the decision to cut back on dog handlers trained in explosive searches and you made 1,000 armed response officers redundant, it’s difficult to claim that Trident proves that you are strong on keeping us safe.

What is the point of being ready for a nuclear war if as a result of cuts you need to call in the army to maintain safety on the streets?

Where have I ever said Catholicism was responsible for deaths at the hands of the IRA, there were Nationalist and Republican priests and clergy but the relationship was tenuous and strained as the IRA or provisionals were counter-revolutionary and many were atheist, they saw themselves as protecting the Nationalist community who happened to be Catholic by and large, look at the amount of Protestant Nationalist over the years .

Loyalists used religion as a vehicle but no one took them seriously, they were reactionary to a Nationalist cause, the religious Loyalists were the orange order who by and large dislike and despise the violence as they are incredibly devout if you want to have a serious discussion on Northern Ireland I am always here.

The American example is also flawed as were they churchgoers or simply using a religion as a vehicle?

This has as much to with religion as it does compatibility with a nation’s values and culture.

My other half was doing a night shift last night (Thames Valley Police). She had to send half of the force’s Armed Response Vehicles to escort Theresa May into London once the attacks were under way.

That left them with two (2!) ARV for the entire Thames Valley area for the rest of the night. That’s strong and stable right there.

If the Tories hadn’t cut the forces so severely over the last few years they wouldnt have to shake the supposedly non-existent money tree to replace those numbers now.

I don’t deny that but collusion would be akin to putting the noose around your neck, the truth will come out eventually (Northern Ireland) and caused and is causing a lot of damage, have the Saudis interfered with all recent European elections? Far too far fetched.

That’s the same Thames Valley police force that don’t have an underwater team due to cuts.

As soon as humanly possible :lou_smiley:

May has said we’re to soft on extremists. Maybe she’s forgotten who’s been in power, allowing these people to travel back and forth.

She also said terror breads terror. I thought it was war.

What exactly would extra unarmed police have done? It was the SAS who nailed the terrorists.

Mind you, I must admit that it was quite something hearing siren after siren go past us here in Tooting. Tooting/Balham high road (the A24) does go all the way up to London Bridge but I must say to hear that many police having to be called in from as far as out as that (relatively speaking) was pretty shocking.

Just a minor point.

No actual confirmation yet that there were 3 attackers. Reports confirm that 3 attackers were shot dead, but no confirmation that there were only 3 involved.

Some reports I read talked of 4 or 5.

Not something that would normally be left open to interpretation

@mrtrampoline

Do you really have no understanding of what additional officers or equipment would offer when it comes to improving security and patrolling cities and major events?

Step away from blindly defending Mrs May for one moment and look at the facts.

The answers there. Look again
