šŸ“¢ ☁ Fighting, terrorism

Security services were warned about him a few times apparently over the past five years, even by family members and schoolfriends. They were told he had been back and forth to Libya and Syria, warned that he had an interest in suicide bombings. They were last warned quite recently according to Frank Gardner on the BBC. Yet he was allowed to stroll into that arena with a bomb strapped to him. The sheer incompetence almost beggars belief.

And what’s all this about the USA security services leaking information to the US press, almost as it happens, despite their UK counterparts holding back for ā€˜operational reasons’? Did it again today, despite Rudd warning them yesterday not to do it. What’s thaat all about? This is starting to get a bit murky.

I’m with pap. We need a British Guantanamo Bay.

I ain’t heard the full details, but I’m not anxious to lay the deaths of 30 odd kids on some pen pusher at MI5. The devils in the detail you know, the fkn timeline. For example if the grassing happened 2 years ago, and I’m not saying it did, I’m opposed to the idea of feds following someone round for that length of time, without anything more substantial. I’m not sure it’d even be legal.

Race to the bottom :lou_smiley:

Even the notion of state-sponsored terrorism is fucking embarrassing and is an insult to the murdered.

And then you read this

These are the translations I found of that same verse Baz (all on the same website I should add, I’ve not been doing that much research :lou_wink_2:), hence my ā€˜lost in translation’ argument:

007:081 Khan
:
ā€œVerily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins).ā€
| | | |
007:081 Maulana
:
Surely you come to males with lust instead of females. Nay, you are a people exceeding bounds.

007:081 Pickthal
:
Lo! ye come with lust unto men instead of women. Nay, but ye are wanton folk.
| | | |
007:081 Rashad
:
ā€œYou practice sex with the men, instead of the women. Indeed, you are a transgressing people.ā€
| | | |
007:081 Sarwar
:
You engage in lustful activities with people instead of women. You have become transgressing people.
| | | |
007:081 Shakir
:
Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extravagant people.

007:081 Sherali
:
You approach men with lust instead of women. Nay, you are a people who exceed all bounds.’

007:081 Yusufali
:
ā€œFor ye practise your lusts on men in preference to women: ye are indeed a people transgressing beyond bounds.ā€

Last thing on this subject Baz, I posted this article before, I found it an interesting read if only in that it offers a differing viewpoint to the interpretation of the Qur’an on the topic of sex and sexuality. I’m by no means saying it is the definitive explanation of the teachings of the Qur’an (certainly, as I don’t believe in the steadfastnessness of any religious teachings so how could I state one version was definitive over another?), or that this is how I think the majority of Muslims interpret the teachings, but I think it gives a good insight into some reasons as to why people might decide to believe or interpret things one way or another.

Last time I was on here you were giving me grief when I said my life was now going to be massively inconvenienced thanks to Brexit. How times change.

The services like to brag about how many plots they stop every day. I think they should release a weekly list. Of course they’ll say that will compromise their work, but they don’t have to go into toouch detail. Sounds like another fuck up to me, like with de Menezes.

I also notice that these days Bearsy is on a mission to get to first place in top upvoter of the year.

It’s speculation right now, no more. The media are pressing hard, rightly, so there will be facts to come out yet.

But at least this is on-topic JB. Much of this thread reminds me of the other place. The amount of divisiveness and bitterness is pretty ironic.

Security forces say that the terrorists only have to be lucky once, they have to be lucky all the time. They must have thousands of people they are monitoring. Question is, how long can you closely monitor someone?

Nothing where I work. We had a minutes silence in a conference but that was it. No emails about being vigilant. But then we had a guy hanging outside our office the other day that I noticed but no emails to let us know if we shoud be worried.

Quite astonishing they would just leave a dead body there like that :astonished:

Pretty much like The Bible then.

Equally a load of absolute shit.

I’ve just spent a few hours in La Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s architectural vision of the bible. I defy even the most steadfast atheist to not be overawed by it. It is astonishing. I avoided men with beards.

I am struggling with the new security measures. Given that London was targeted recently and we knew we were likely to be targeted again, why weren’t they brought in on this scale before? Also if we had the increased security measures earlier, would they have prevented the attacks in London and Manchester?

I guess the OP question is asking what we’re all thinking … How does a British born, Man U supporting dude make a decision that he’ll strap himself with a nail bomb and target a concert that will inflict mass casualties on children. Placing himself at the right point to maximise casualties and avoid detection. It’s fucking horrific, worst thing is though it’s just so precise and calculated. How does someone get to a point of this?

Really? I’ve always been pretty anti-Brexit.
