Feminism

You could do that, it’d be a hit and no doubt the most used part of the forum, like it or lump it people talk about it, whack it all in one place if you want, a religion and cultural back passage thread or something of that sort, I don’t want women, gays, or non-believers on there though as it’s against my cultural and religious beliefs, off for a drink of arranged marriage, dowry and honour killings washed down with a bit of acid and self-righteousness as I’m a believer man.

Down voted for blatant sexism. That sort of talk has no place in modern society.

Bazza shifting the debate to his usual schtik of cultural relativism ::yawn::

so what? Why even bother saying that the situation is worse in other countries/cultures? Does that make women feel better about their experiences here? Do they say “I’ve been denigrated at work, passed over for promotion, touched up in the bar after work and shouted at in the street on the way home, but at least I don’t live in Saudi Arabia” ?

We all love a moan about merry old England and yet we’re one of the best, lets rejoice and love this great nation and spit in the eye of the backward mo fo’s, we’re putting Great back into Britain, and not a dowry or arranged marriage in sight just a bacon sarnie and a pint of mild.

Yeah, lets rejoice that our country is full of blatant sexism but at least it’s not as bad as Saudi.

Lou, Niki, I’ll let you guys start the hanging out of the bunting

I want equality man and above all fairness for all, you can’t even admit we’re better than most, put that on your slide along with the Maginot Line and riding high on a hit for 9 years. Cultures in this Country don’t want that, I do though and will attack all who don’t want it, won’t you? Happy to sit back and let shit be for fear of offending? Class man class.

Pah - women get told they’re crazy all the time. I’m just redressing the balance! And this thread - on feminism off all things!!! - is an excellent example of blokes going bonkers when in the company of other blokes. Loss of all rationale.

And I don’t blame Bazza - Tramps started it! Nuts! :lou_wink_2:

Fuck sake, Barry, you’re obsessed! Not everything is about you, y’know! Quit dominating a thread about women gaining equality, with your own agendas. This ain’t about offending. This is about, once again, blokes dominating the conversation… Yawn flipping yawn.

You do know that the Great in Great Britain doesn’t mean great in terms of fantastic, don’t you Barry?

Ok, new topic for consideration. What do we think of this school and its work to counter gender stereotypes? A few parents on this forum that this subject matter must be relevant to…

Down voted for assuming this is women’s work. This kind of talk has no place in modern Britain.

Really? Just don’t tell the Irish…

Well, if by started it, you mean that I pointed out three examples of how the general leftist response to feminist issues depends on skin colour, yes.

Those were 1) The Labour Party organising sex-segregated meetings if the audience are brown-skinned.

Here’s a picture of one in Birmingham

  1. The media reacting to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” with unbridled hatred for its sexism and misogyny, whilst literally never going after rap or hip-hop music despite it being

For the uninitiated, allow me to compare some of the lyrics.

Blurred Lines (Robin Thicke ft. Pharrell)

“OK, now he was close
Tried to domesticate you
But you’re an animal
Baby, it’s in your nature
Just let me liberate you
You don’t need no papers
That man is not your mate
And that’s why I’m gon’ take you”

Amazing (T.I. ft. Pharrell)

"Skateboard P’ll make your face fall off
(Serve a bitch straight D) And make her face fall off (okay)

Nigga, this your girl, better come get her
Turn her to a dick monster, nut muncher
Sperm rag, cum dumpster, left amongst her
Bitches in the past, pretty titties, plenty ass
They just drink up what we give 'em, take shots without any glass
Fuck her in the face 'til it fall off or 'til she gag, gag, gag"

  1. The left-wing media covering up the New Year Cologne attacks up until around a week after the event

I still haven’t heard an answer to these issues.

To be fair to Bathsaint, he did ask for links and proof - so I have to assume he was genuinely unaware of all of this. I trust he’ll be open-minded enough to rethink his opinions in light of the evidence, as will many of the sensible and rational people who make up this forum.

If all they’re doing is what they say they’re doing, then I can’t see an issue.

“We don’t say, ‘Come on, boys, let’s go and play football because there might be girls who want to play football,” explained Wikström. “We say ‘friends’ instead because it puts yourself on an equal level.”

This seems all fine.

The only thing I would point out to her is that she’s rather making the assumption that there is no in-built gender bias inherent to our very nature, and that (if she’s wrong of course) she might be a little disappointed in the effects this has.

For instance - the number of women staking STEM subjects at university in Pakistan is around 50%, whereas in Norway its around 10%.

It isn’t so much that women tend to go for more ‘womanly’ subjects if they have more choice - but the assumption that left untroubled with sexism and gender bias, every single facet of life would include a perfect demographic representation of the population (50/50 gender divide, 87/13 white-to-ethnic minority or whatever the percentage is across the entire UK population) - you might find yourself a little disappointed.

Worth watching Thomas Sowell speak with William Buckley on the subject here.

Funnily enough - there was a cute little story I heard not long ago about two particularly gender-conscious parents who decided to give their 5-year old daughter a set of monster trucks for Christmas rather than the typical dolls and teasets that you might casually give your daughter without much thought.

To their initial delight - she loved them - brum-brumming them around the living room carpet all day long and having a wonderful Christmas and so on.

Later that day, her parents came upstairs to check how she was getting on, and to see if she was still playing with her trucks - only to be met by a rather stern-faced 5-year old hushing and shooshing them as they opened the door.

“Shh! They’re sleeping!” she said - pointing to her set of monster trucks which were all tucked up in bed.

No worries Barry. I think they worked that out a long time ago.

Not really Barry(nice try). Where’s my ticket(Indian side is ok if you’re struggling). Monsoon season this time of year, so hurry up.

How are you getting on with the history of women scholars in Islam? Was all going swimmingly, until the men listened to a European(man by the way) and changed their interpretation of verse 4:34.

It appears the only consistent problem, the world over, is men being in charge.

Sit back men(pour a drink, sit out in the sun), the women will deal with it(far better than we could ever hope too, by all accounts).

So therefore we’ve progressed more than others, quite right to, or have some regressed?
