I’ve been rather critical of Tom Watson’s utter hypocrisy on Twitter. I have stuck to the issues, or pointing out/retweeting the issues, but I’ve had a couple of replies which alluded to personal characteristics.
Sensible side of me thinks it utterly distasteful.
“bastard pap” will entertain the notion with these candidates. They say you get the face you deserve at 40. Leadsom is 53. May’s a bit older, but put a hood on her and she’s commanding Darth Vader.
Fans of proverbs might ponder what they’ve done to deserve this.
Forty Bensons a day is being entertained as an alternate theory.
I like neither candidate but lets not go down a route of commenting on how they look. Let’s just keep highlighting what utterly awful stuff they’ve said or believe.

I know. I called people out on Twitter for it when they started doing worse on Tom Watson.
There’s a whole other debate that could be had about appearance and politics. That’s really what I’m digging at here; the difference between the Nixon vs Kennedy debates on radio, as opposed to politics.
You’re absolutely right though. The argument doesn’t need to be prosecuted on such superficial grounds. With May’s policy record and Leadsom’s publicly stated views, it can be won in the intellectual space.
Not everyone votes on those grounds though, and if we’re getting voters making an emotional assessment about Corbyn on account of not wearing a proper suit, and never voting for him, why is so wrong for voters to reject May and Leadsom because they don’t resemble a person they’ve ever met and liked?

Wasn’t she in Butterflies?
It was more Pap’s comment re age and cigarettes that felt t like it was more on looks than personality or policy.
Corbyn is being picked up on his sartorial attire but usually it’s aimed at women.
Andrea is being picked on by the establishment. Err hasn’t she been quite a part of that establishment if we are to believe her C.V.? Isn’t that what Farage also likes to say?
I think there might be a double standard here. I mean, if someone like Frankie Boyle described her as a deranged geriatric cockateel, which is well within his range, would you be laughing or penning a letter of protest?
So Leadsom has been complaining that this is “gutter jounalism” yet the reporter was on TV earlier saying that she had reported exactly what Leadsom had said and that it was Leadsom who brought up the issue with May and not her. So then, not gutter journalism but gutter politics. Dont these people ever learn? Also found it amusing that Tories are talking about splitting if Leadsom wins the vote. Wouldnt that be a shame

She’s done just that! So it seems as though May’s campagin strategy has been to sit at home, bake a cake and drink some tea, whilst all of her opponents kick themselves in the arse.
