Fantasy Tory Leadership Game

It looks like May has been very canny here. By putting prominent Brexiters in these positions if they succeed she can take the credit and if they fail she can say that it had nothing to do with her as she had put the people in these positions who argued that we would be stronger out of the EU.

Isn’t that the wrong Dr Fox?

And Fox is a smarmy git who should probably be in prison rather than still in Parliament.

Isn’t that the wrong Dr Fox?

Think the DJ was acquitted anyway. December 2015.

Liam Fox - forced to resign in disgrace as Defence Secretary in 2011 because he had invited buddy Adam Werrity, a lobbyist, to international trips and to private MoD meetings even though he had no official role in government and no security clearance. Werrity handed out business cards suggesting he was Fox’s adviser and went to meetings with defence contractors and diplomats.

This from The Independent today.

So it’s pretty much done.

Good, bad or meh? (Putting aside party politics for a mo)

Davis is a good appointment, the one Tory labour types can get on with. He speaks a lot of sense. Far better him negotiating Brexit than the likes of Boris. I’ve watched him speak on the subject. He has a good handle of what a sensible Brexiter wants out of this.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if we got visa free travel, perhaps even a right to live in work, in the English speaking parts of the Commonwealth. His time in the Foreign Ministry will be good preparation. He seems to know a lot about the players involved, is all about trade and cites numerous examples of much smaller countris than us, like Switzerland or Australia, striking their own deals with much bigger ones, such as China, in much shorter timeframes than the EU typically achieves.

I’ve already gone into my misgivings about Hunt & Johnson.

As I said yesterday, speech was good in terms of rhetoric. I’ll retain an open mind. Gotta be an improvement on Dave and Gideon.

Interesting take on his capabilitites

I have always thought it has got to be easier for one country to negotiate a trade deal than a block of twenty eight countries, each with differing interests and more importantly a veto.

As a leftie, sometime demonstrator and frequent chant starter, I am thrilled for one reason at least.

Cameron is a fucking difficult word to get in chants because it doesn’t rhyme with much.

“Theresa” alone offers potential

e.g.

Theresa - bloody shit leader (to tune of for he’s a jolly good fellow)

“May” is something else. A true gift to the protest movement. It rhymes with loads, and I shall have my fun.
