I thought it looked like a pretty soft penalty at the time, but then VAR ratified it.
Which, as ever, brings into question the operation of VAR. I expected the penalty award to be overturned, but it wasnāt. In the second half Everton were given a free kick just outside the box following Bednarekās tackle on Richarlison. VAR checked to see if Bednarek should be sent off; surely this check would have showed that Bednarek won the ball cleanly, so no foul should have been given. The end result was an Everton free kick in a dangerous position, plus a booking for Bednarek for what was in fact an excellent tackle.
Mental.
VAR can chalk off a goal for a foul in the build up so what if they had scored from that free kick? Mental
I thought Richarlison was lucky to stay on the pitch after he went through Adams (?) Got away with a yellow.
