Yes he’s actually come forward (albeit only via his own internal media team) but what he’s saying is quite clearly bullshit and aimed at placating fans now that he’s not getting what he actually wants and he has to live with them still.
None of the reaction to ESL would have come as a surprise to them. He may be an ignorant American but there were plenty of British and European representatives behind this that would have pointed out just how unpopular this idea would be.
Anything any of theses wankers comes out and says over the coming days, weeks and months is nothing more than rhetoric and lip service in an attempt to save themselves from being attacked in the street so that they can survive long enough to start working on the next insidious plan to make grotesque amounts of money and fuck everybody else over in the process.
The battle may well have been won but the war is far from over. What this whole episode has shown is that these fucks are operating in the shadows.
I hope there are meaningful repercussions placed on those teams but I fear that they will eventually get closer to what they want in terms of getting more money out of existing tournaments.
Reckon this is why Woodward has been given the heave ho -I bet he told the Glazers it would be a piece of piss once the sabre rattling had died down. He has always been a bit out of his depth.
With the UK clubs I think there were two categories
Those who were driving it like Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal and those who joined through fear of being left behind Chelse, Tottenham and City. I suspect the panic at the thought of missing out preoccupied their thinking
Okay maybe I am just a b#tch but after their selfish behaviour I personally would prefer to see those 6 clubs dumped at the bottom of league 2 for bringing the game into disrepute, no possibility of promotion for 5yrs.
Agnelli said he felt the British government’s intervention, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson threatening legislation to stop the breakaway, had pushed the English clubs to withdraw.
“I have had speculation to that extent that if six teams would have broken away and would have threatened the EPL (Premier League), politics would have seen that as an attack to Brexit and their political scheme,” he said.
Well, what an exciting few days that was. Actually quite uplifting when you think about it. You can charge a bedroom tax, you can enforce crippling austerity and you can fart about trying to fuck about with a referendum result, tell people they’ve got to stay in their homes and you’ll sleep well, authoritarian. They’ll do it.
Fuck with their football? No fucking chance.
This was the dogpile of all dogpiles, the entire world on the backs of twelve clubs’ owners, their motives at best naïve, at worst trying to fix their own debt mountains with more debt from JP Morgan and the lavish media rights that would inevitably follow.
Don’t think the positions of any of the owners are tenable in the long term. The missus was placated by skin puppet John Henry apologising to the fans, when he has likely been one of this plan’s biggest proponents in England.
The other sides are just fucked. Real Madrid. Barcelona. Galacticos on the fucking never never, who’ve used their debt and their government bailouts to make Spanish football such a fucking procession that no-one gives a shit anymore.
The interesting thing is this L9 rule in the Premier League. Clubs are barred from entering any other competition save those listed. I think the PL league clubs made it very clear they’d entered the competition, and have rolled so quickly to escape the associated sanctions.
I think a fair punishment is relegation to the point where they have to start again, if the owners that hatched this are still in charge at the end of the season. Some might find that harsh, but the punishment should fit the crime. They tried to destroy the football pyramid. They could all do with re-learning its charms.
