They were discussing that during the final overs, Hussain mentioned they’d won and then quickly decided to gloss over it…

With no spectators in the ground, why the hell not?

Having been to an Ashes match at Edgbaston, admittedly some years back, it was equally galling to experience 2.5 hours of lost play to light. Later in that same (early July) day, the skies cleared totally to give glorious sunshine.

Play continued only until 6.30pm and then off they went, still in universal blue skies and sundown not due until 9.50pm

Even then tickets cost £85. :rage:

England win toss, bat.
Curran out Archer in.
It is raining

What a surprise…

10.29am: One minute to go until the toss and it has started raining … You couldn’t make it up (or you wouldn’t because it would be too dully predictable). The covers are being dragged on, and it looks like we’ll have a delay. “Feels like a passing show,” says George from the ground.

England: 1 Dom Sibley, 2 Rory Burns, 3 Zak Crawley, 4 Joe Root (capt), 5 Ollie Pope, 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Chris Woakes, 8 Dom Bess, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Anderson

Pakistan: 1 Shan Masood, 2 Abid Ali, 3 Azhar Ali (capt), 4 Babar Azam, 5 Asad Shafiq, 6 Fawad Alam, 7 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 8 Yasir Shah, 9 Shaheen Afridi, 10 Mohammad Abbas, 11 Naseem Shah

10.38am: England have won the toss and will bat , Joe Root reckons “it looks a bit drier than the previous wicket, so we want to try and make most use of it first and exploit that later in the game.” Sam Curran drops out again, with Archer back in the side. England want him to “operate in short, sharp spells, and bowl fast”, Root adds. Azhar wanted to bat too, saying “it looks a very good track.” Pakistan are unchanged. “We’ll try to pick up early wickets and utiilise the conditions,” Azhar says. “It’s a very important game, must-win for us.”
