EFL Cup Final - Manchester United vs Southampton Match Thread

Surely Sotonians with their bellend emojis, should be thinking about more along these sort of lines?

Obviously, not a girls night out like, a more manly slogan, like ‘Cocks out for the lads’ or something?

I was sat in the Manc end in 76. They were not happy bunnies on the way out and showered their own fellow fans with cans as we walked down the steps on the way out.

Reading your post, I’m left with one of two conclusions.

  1. This is merely a demonstration of the principal of universality, whereby less detailed pictures can be mentally associated with more people. Figure 1 shows one of the most universal depictions of a human.

Smiley face; applicable to everyone except @barry-sanchez

  1. @areloa-grandee has been completely programmed by the KFC corporation. He sees Colonel Sanders in the face of every partner mid-coitus, and does not have a post-coital ciggy. He rushes to the nearest 24 hour KFC and gets a boneless bucket.

I have seen 3 finals at the ‘new’ Wembley Stadium, and all 3 teams I have gone to cheer on for the day have won.

AFC Wimbledon

come on Saints please make it 4 in a row.

With mayonaisse on the chips?

Only just spotted what you said there Phil…smartarse. I did say "corresponding spot, in line with Bobby Stokes’ winning goal. "…just at the other end.

I am a little concerned. Mourinho takes this competition very seriously. He doesn’t see it as the third most prestigious domestic trophy, or the realistic pinnacle of what his teams can presently achieve. If we get beaten, Man Utd won’t be doing the “Swansea holiday” for the rest of the year.

He sees it as a chance to instil a winning culture ahead of the final run-in.

Ibra scares me too. Typical big game player. First appearance in an English Cup final. If he can make mugs of England when playing for Sweden, he’ll have no worries with us if he’s in the mood. With no VVD, we’ve got the pick of two unproven defenders to partner Yoshi. Frase has to be up for this game. No lapses. No excuses. No standing rooted to the fucking spot like he did for that Hammers free kick.

Honestly not sure what the best game plan is. Do we go at them and piss them off, or play off the counter, knowing it works, but having to draw dangerous players into dangerous areas that aren’t ideally staffed?

What scares me most about him is his ablity to throw himself to the ground without being touched and make it look convincing as he did mid-week. Mind you it takes the collusion of a totally inept referee to assist…so no worries on that count. :lou_facepalm_2:

Not just you worrying about the final Pap … rumour has it De Gea’s shitting himself about the prospect of facing Gabba and Schlong !!

I am encouraged for other reasons though. I have been reasonably lucky in “decent games attended” for my relatively short time as a season ticket holder. I’ve seen our biggest ever Premier League win, the fastest ever Premier League hat-trick (well, bits of it, I blinked) and the last ever Southampton vs Pompey fixture (for now).

I’ve also been very lucky on cup games I was physically at, with only the 6-1 against Liverpool and the disappointing result against that Middle Eastern team in the Europa League. I saw us beat Arsenal at the Emirates when Clyney drove that long-ranger in. I was at the League Cup semi-final, and saw Boufal get his first goal. Added to @sfcsim 's Wembley record, that augurs well!

Unfortunately, I daresay Utd fans have had rather more lucky cup game visits than we.

But, we’ve a 100% record against them in major finals on that ground!

Swings and irrational roundabouts, innit?

My youngest daughter didn’t believe me when I told her De Gea was from Spain.

“He looks like he’s from Yorkshire, dad!”

Perhaps is also concerned about people finding about his hidden Sheffield roots :lou_sunglasses:

Young Adult #2 was also fantastic fun when she was mastering reading. Back when Employment was first released, she asked if I liked the “Kaiser Chefs” :lou_smiley:

That’s a reality cooking show, right there.

I just hope our new CB is fit enough for the game. Zlatan will make mincemenat of Stephens.

Well, you want the young nippers to do well, but equally, I remind myself that Chambers was getting games at centre back while Stephens was being sent off around the leagues to get game time. The club couldn’t have been that impressed back then. The Caceres move demonstrates that even more.

Don’t remember Chambers getting many games at centre back for us - right back yes, but not in the middle. You also seem to be forgetting that Stephens suffered a serious injury very early in his career and was loaned out at least in part to help his recovery and give him game time. We wouldn’t have bought him from Plymouth if we hadn’t seen something special there. I’ve been generally impressed by what I’ve seen of Stephens, though in truth it’s not all that much as yet.

The move for Caceres was made because we’ve lost one massively experienced internationall centre back (because he decided to be a knob-end) and an even better centre back (because a rat-faced little cunt stamped on him). So, left with one very good, experienced centre back, one rather unknown quantity returning from long-term injury and one with very little experience, what the hell would you expect the club to do? It’s got nothing to do with doubts about Stephens’ quality.

Chambers didn’t play many games there. My point was that he played more than Stephens. Didn’t know about the injury background, so cheers for sharing that.

Would sir like a temporary username change to @fowllyd ? You’d have my blessing, even though Chapel Kate would not approve.

FFS, stop being such bedwetting feckers (note selfpolicing the sweary words to avoid being censored) We will win this focker. I know this as I will be sat infront of TV waving my Giant foam hand, dressed in full kit, whilst stuffing my face with a chicken Balti Pie and masturbating as instructed by Fatso… not sure I will be able to keep it going for 90 mins though (am ficked if it goes to extra time and pens).

This post just confuses the F*** out of me. Despite an IQ of 147, I can make no sense of this?

Big break!

De Gea is allegedly injured for this weekends game against Blackburn

Lets 's hope he stays that way for next week as well.

24 hours until I can check in for my flight home. This is getting REAL now!
