You sure that isn’t the clip from Back to the Future?
A couple of Little Richard memories:
Years back I remember seeing a pic in the NME of Ian Penman shaking hands with Little Richard. As Penman put it, looking into Little Richard’s eyes was a beautiful experience, like looking into a little bit of heaven. I liked that.
I heard some time on the radio an interview with Little Richard in which he described trying to teach Paul McCartney how to do the high “Wooooooooooooo!” that Richard himself did so well. It was fucking hilarious.
This won’t make any headlines, and I’m not even sure I should put it in this thread. Our little dog Ollie died yesterday, just a month short of what would have been his 8th birthday. He developed an auto-immune system disorder, as a consequence of which his red blood corpuscles were being destroyed. He was fine on Wednesday, seemed a bit ill on Thursday (didn’t want his breakfast, which was certainly not like him at all). Then we noticed late in the morning that there was blood in his wee, so we got an appointment at the vets in Petersfield.
They kept him in all day, then in the evening we took him to a specialist place near Hursley. They gave him immuno-suppressant drugs and a blood transfusion, and he appeared to respond well at first. But his bllod count kept dropping and, after a second transfusion, he’d suffered neurological damage, couldn’t stand up or move about and showed no inclination to do so.
So yesterday the four of us went over to say our final farewells. He was a happy, lovely dog right to the end, and at least he got to spend his last moments with all of us around him.
Still doesn’t feel real, and we’re all utterly devastated.
Nothing worse than losing a family member, you have my sympathy
Really sorry to hear that mate.
That’s pants
Mate, that’s awful.
Have a virtual Bletch hug because nothing I can say will help.
Love to Elizabeth and the girls from Ange and me.
So sorry Fowllyd.
That’s dreadful. I’m really sorry to hear that.
You know I’m crying for all of you…and Ollie of course. You never learn how to cope with loss and although non dog owners will not fully understand dog owners will.
Thoughts with you @Fowllyd, having any pet passing is a painful experience!
Big hugs for you all…
Sorry to hear that mate.
You’re not a real man unless you’ve cried in a vets.
And cry I did - like a baby, as did the other three (though they’re nobody’s idea of real men).
Thanks all for the replies - massively appreciated. Nothing can ever bring back my lovely dog, but you’ve all helped to ease the hurt.
For all you Seinfeld lovers (and if you aren’t, you need psychiatric help) the great Frank Costanza has died aged 92.
I’d forgotten that the actor Jerry Stiller, was Ben’s dad and appeared with him in Zoolander and other films.
I read that this morning. I’ve always loved Jerry Stiller but had no idea that he was Ben’s father.
Anyway, he provided me with plenty of laughs, so thanks for that Jerry!
Excellent piece here on the great Richard Penniman:
That’s a great bit of writing.
Somewhere in the dusty recesses of my failing memory, I have a childhood recollection of Little Richard singing at the opening ceremony of an FA cup final at Wembley and getting booed off. I also recall Bruce Forsyth doing the honours the following year and the unpleasantness of the Little Richard abuse being mentioned by the commentators.
I cannot find any reference to this event online, and I’m starting to think I must have dreamt it. Anybody else recall this? It would have been in the early seventies. (the year, not my seventies )
