Common assault is a minor crime, that’s the point. It’s not even common assault occasioning ABH (also a minor crime).

Common Assault tends to be something that is used to make an example of people, or get people into headlines. People very, very rarely get put in prison for it for a single offence. It’s a ticking off, at best.

Not being pedantic, but your exceptions to for common assault are irrelevant - the law is the law.

If he was even slightly injured, the police would have charged her with ABH.

What’s your best common assault, Cherts?

How low can you get. :rage:

Interesting take on the S*n’s coverage of the Flack affair. Private Eye suggesting that they are trying to divert attention from press reports prejudicial to the trial.

Loved a bit of Mazzy Starr back in the day.

Lo-fi guitars and echoing muted vocals. Love it.

McCoy Tyner. One of the greats. RIP.

A part of some hugely influential music, and things that I love. But by most accounts an abusive fucking cunt. Mixed feeling about the death of Genesis P-Orridge.

radical art collective based in Hull,

That’s where they lost me

Back in 1980, when I was at university, a friend of my then girlfriend asked if I could spend a bit of time listening to and transcribing an interview with Genesis P Orridge. It was pretty interesting stuff as I recall - as much about politics as music, and distinctly radical.

Even a partial listen to TG’s first LP, recorded way back in 1975, shows how radical they were musically too. Who the fuck else made stuff like that back then?

The band name also gave rise to a brilliant piece of meta rhyming slang, coined by a good friend of mine. When I saw him one time, he checked my Bogart-style threads and said: “Nice Throbbing.”

You’re older and more broadly travelled than I took you for.

I love Throbbing Gristle, Coil, that whole thing. But if you read Cosey Fanni Tutti’s autobiography… he doesn’t come out well from it. I mean that’s understating it, he comes across as someone you’d be glad was dead. And music notwithstanding, I think that’s how I feel.

Great music though, the cunt.

I stole somebody else’s face.

I’ve not heard an awful lot of TG’s music, but what I have heard I’ve liked. Maybe there’s an echo there of Captain Beefheart, a man whose music I could never tire of, but who was, by the accounts of his band members, a pretty horrible person to be around. John “Drumbo” French has posited that Beefheart suffered from pretty serious mental illness throughout his life - it was, certainly, far less well diagnosed or understood back then than is the case now. Could well be that Genesis had similar issues, or that he was himself a victim of abuse in his earlier life. Cycles of abuse are notoriously hard to break out of, after all. Or maybe he was just a cunt who made great music, which could apply to the Captain too.

I think Beefheart (from what I know) was a control freak and hard to get on with. GP-O was a violently abusive shit who tried to kill his partner with a breeze block.

Accounts of life in what’s known as the “Trout Mask House” are pretty scary and full of psychological abuse, but I think I can safely say that Don never actually tried to kill any of the Magic Band.
