Although his chosen methods were always controversial… Heff did make an interesting quote when he was asked for his definition of obscenity ‘‘racism, war, bigotry, but sex? No’’
Many would rightly argue that his image of ‘sex’ was cliched, sexist and ‘fantasy’ - but there is a truism in his definition of what is obscene

Strange person. I cant remember not seeing him without his PJs and dressing gown on and a pipe stuck in his mouth. REady for action I guess. Clearly a man of his times, his idealised version of women (airbrushed to within an inch of their lives) was always odd. The British “glamour” magazines of the 70s and 80s seemed to portray a more realistic image of women (although I grant you, you dont normall see them with their chest and arses thrust out in Tescos). There we a standing joke when I was younger that you only look at these magazines for the articles and jokes, and in Playboy’s case that was mainly true. The artilces were excellent and wide ranging. He was completely right in that we used to lump sex and violence together and had a skewed view of morality. Not sure if his idealisation of young women to the extent that their pictures were doctored was defendable though.
One final thought. The guy took so much Viagra that I wonder how they are going to screw the coffin lid down?

Its been many years since myself and Playboy crossed paths and I had forgotten about a lot of stuff. Reading the obits it has reminded me about the Playmates and Playboy bunnies. For all the good he did for liberalising sex and bringing it into the mainstream, he was also cleary responsible for a great deal of objectifying the Sisterhood. A man of his times certainly.
Comedian Sean Hughes has died aged 51.

Yep, just saw that Sean Hughes had died. Wow - I really didn’t expect that.
Cirrhosis of the liver apprently so guess he must have been a very heavy drinker. He did sometimes look to be a bit pissed in some of his appearences but still, a real surprise and shame.

I loved Sean’s Show as a younger man and remember buying Sean’s book. Recently I’d been listening to some of his under the radar podcasts.
