⚰ Death

Looks like it’s not just you. Or me. Or pretty much anyone else I know.

They cancelled Battlestar Galactica last night FFS.

Also, HIGNFY was due and would have been recorded before he snuffed it. Be interesting to see if they have the extended repeat show on Monday night. I suspect not, as most of it would have been digs at Harry and the Yank.

Lot’s of complaints about Radio 2 and Radio 6 only playing solemn, sad music. I wonder how long they will keep this up for.

Well as BBC are rolling out just about anyone who’s spoken to the old codger I’m making my bid by riding in, pillion on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse today. Lady Slowlane and I saw him and his missus once at The Tower of London.

Seriously…not a waxwork effigy but the real version…he spoke to me too…told me to “Get out the fuckin’ way”…what a wag he was. :lou_lol:

2 hours later.
The funeral service has just ended.
There are tears. Hardly a car on the village road, no neighbours out for walks on a stunning sunny day.
Now the procession to the Cemetary, crowds of people walking alongside on the pavements while instrumental versions of his songs play

Basically, he’s Polands answer to Johnny Halliday?

I drove down to Wells yesterday for a collection. On the way back, I was switching CDs and heard a snatch of the news, which was obviously about Phil the Greek. I said to my mate “oh, so he’s finally carked it then…” he replied “yes, I heard earlier today.” I asked him out of interest why he hadn’t bothered to mention it before. His reply, “my wife told me not to tell you until we got back. It’s a long drive and she thought you might be overwhelmed with grief.”

I looked at him in stunned astonishment, then burst out into incredulous laughter. He was serious too, I still can’t believe it.

My ex wife was an ardent fan of all things royal. Back in the day she was told by a friend that the Queen and Philip would be attending Sunday service at Romsey Abbey, so she went into town to try and catch a glimpse. She actually saw them and their entourage strolling through Romsey on a quiet Sunday morning walking back to Broadlands. She was in a state of euphoria when she arrived home, and spent the whole of Sunday afternoon ringing everyone she knew and boring the arse off them with the tale of her close encounter. With me rolling my eyes in the background!
On Charles and Diana’s wedding day when we all had a day off work to go on the lash, she dragged me out of the Phoenix to go and stand up by Romsey station to see the happy couple arrive by royal train for their wedding night at Broadlands. A large gathering, a mixture of flag wavers and Romsonians who had been in the pub since mid-morning,(I, of course was in the latter camp). As the royal limo came out of the station and inched it’s way through the crowd down Station Rd, with people cheering and waving their little flags, I well and truly blotted my copybook by remarking loudly, “I’ll give it ten years”, which was met by a mixture of laughs and much tut tutting. My ex was furious, it took her weeks to get over it, I brought shame upon the family name etc. Things went rapidly downhill on the domestic front after that!

My absolute favourite royal story was told by Michael Bentine on Parkinson many years ago, which he swore was true. Bentine’s brother was was a senior diplomat in the Foreign Office, and at the time was posted to the British Embassy in Australia. The Queen and Philip were on a Commonwealth tour and when they visited Australia they went on their usual meet and greet walkabout. Bentine’s brother was accompanying them, and the Queen stopped to talk with one guy, the usual,“And what do you do?”. The guy replied, “I’m a photographer Ma’am”, to which the Queen replied, “Oh, my Brother-in Law is a photographer”. The guy replied, “That is a coincidence Ma’am, my Brother-in Law is a Queen”!
