David Bowie has died

Superb and one of my favourites. loved most of his stuff, simply wasn’t scared to try anything, RIP thin white Duke.

Always remember him looking SO pissed off in the back of a limo being driven into the Guildhall in '73.

Great concert though.

Favourite single - Drive In Saturday.

Such a shock tbh. That the news was kept so quiet while he recorded and only a few days ago had seen the start of a buzz around his new album.

Such diversity in his music as he kept re-inventing himself that he could find fans in all genres.

I am blessed that I saw him in the ;80’s at Wembley, and again, in a much more relaxed cameo at the Prince’s Trust in '86. His music, his acting, his Charity Work, and from the excellent piece on Sky News just now, an all round Human being.

What a legacy he has left behind though

I would recommend a legal download if you like this link as the sound quality is miles better.

Woke up and heard this on the radio straight away. Horrible shock to wake up to.

Has always been one of my Mum’s favourites, so was a permanent feature of our house. Especially when it was just me and her.

Really gutted about the news. Shock factor seems to be just doubled with him having put out (such a good) album just last week.

RIP Ziggy.

Just put Heroes on full volume, reminds me of Liveaid.

I was brought up on Rock’n’roll Suicide, Diamond Dogs, Drive in Saturday, Life on Mars, Jean Genie - what an amazing legacy.

We won’t see an artist of that calibre again for a while.

(perhaps we need to apologise to the handful of people who may have never liked any of his output and can’t get the fuss, sorry people, this is his day)

Also, 6music is pretty much all Bowie this morning.

Classy touch from Rough Trade. For the rest of Jan, all profits from their sales of Bowie records to Cancer Research.

Worth checking out their page if you do fancy buying something of his. May do a small bit of help.

Massive part of my teen years; his was the first music I listened to that was something other than straightforward pop. Was genuinely shocked when I heard the news on the radio this morning.

I knew he was ill (can’t remember who told me - some time over the summer) so not a shock when I saw the news this morning, but very sad, and a very young age to go. He clearly had so much more to give, but I’m glad he had the opportunity to say the things he wanted to say through his new music. Powerful stuff. Reminds me a bit of Dennis Potter, who when he found out he was dying put all his last energies into writing his final two plays. Brave, unique, focussed men who have made a considerable impact on this world.

Seen this doing the rounds on social media, it’s a nice little quote:

If you’re ever sad, just remember the world is 4.543 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie.

R.I.P

Just played this on 6 music…couldn’t help but cry…

I’m saddened and shocked by his death and I appreciate his music, but that quote just seems a bit twee to me.

One man’s profound is another’s twee…depends on your back-story.

I was referring to KRGs quote

I’ve been singing my “Bowie Is Dead” song round the office that I just wrote by way of Tribute, and Beef Fanny, who’s the dumb secretary what got me Disciplnary, her opinion on all this is, “Who is David Bowie?”

fkin Beef Fanny RIP

We have been out all day so just got back to see the news. We are now both very quiet and sad people sat in a tropical paradise. My partner saw him quite a few times. I still held out hope. Maybe a large rum and something to celebrate such a talented man. Ffs sake I can hear James Bxxxt from the bar. Have they no respect!

The most moving one I’ve seen in recent years is the Thursday’s Child video - it’s a great comment on age.
